SSD dismounted & fixed - cause?

Hi all

I have a Live mk1 and it's running the 3.4.0.92 beta.
It's had a Crucial SSD in there for a while now (=a few years). The other night, the machine crashed (locked up with a few of the control buttons etc lit). I hadn't been playing it at the time so only noticed it when I went to it to do a save and switch it off. When I restarted it after a hard reboot, the SSD was offline. (I don't know if the dismount or the crash came first, obviously).

After a couple of restarts, the disk remained offline.

Then, the disk was visible in Windows in controller mode. Windows flagged it as needing a scan and repair, which I ran - it said no errors found. But when I restarted the MPC in standalone, the SSD was back online.

I'm just curious about possible causes (and remedies) for this as it's never happened before in the several years I've had the unit. Some ideas:
- my mate switched off his TR-8S (which was attached to the MPC by USB only, via a passive hub) - it seems unlikely to me, and could well be coincidence, but is there any way this could have sent some kind of rogue power/signal and confused the MPC?
- disc physically unmounting itself somehow - I took a look and it seemed OK, though I did reseat it to be sure
- any possibility it's related to the MPC3 beta?
- SSD wear/failure - do they suddenly and completely go, or gradually go bad?

Curious as to people's thoughts/experience here.

I hadn't noticed there was an update (the wifi on my Live has never worked since it was new) so I'll get onto that.

I should probably get into the habit of connecting it up every week or two to check in.
