Akai should make a Rack Mount MPC

LOL latest add... Drums drums and MORE drums.. Had to keep this one on the desk, chopping up drum beats is not fun bending down in front of the rack..

There was a model (S6000 IIRC) which had a detachable screen for a more comfortable operation...

The S5000/S6000 are Intel 386s running sampler software heh. They dont sound anything like any of the previous generations. The Z4/Z8 are even farther out.

Even the S3000XL isn't one of the 'magic' ones, but it still does that thick 'plastic' smacking sound to everything just the same, and its got the cyclic pitch shifting I use all the time. Had a chance to get an S1000 at the same time for $500 but I didn't want to deal with all the proprietary shit inside it like the RAM and the display. The 3000XL uses SIMMs just like my EMU's do, maxed the thing out for $10 after I got it, my SCSI2SD v6 popped right in, etc. Over the years I've seen so many people complain about working on these 'back in the day', it chops/extracts just as easy as the MPC does, I was up and running inside the whole OS in like 10 minutes. Hardest part about it was learning how to format the drives because the load/save menus are all **** up and organized 'Japan Akai style' haha.

*grumbles* still nothing in this department. guess we gotta fabricate our own. it's how i invisioned my mpc living its life- as a module or sequencer in my ecosystem. I have the mpc one which is the smallest unit and i consider it a bit invasive to space, and i find my cat on top of it n shit like "lookit meeee ♪ loook what i'm do-in ! ♫" doing circles and looking for things to break. In a rack it would be safe from the super crazy turbo kitty.

They could be made from right angled aluminium profiles – I used them to make rack rails for my E-mu XL-7 and Yamaha 01V96, so they are definitely durable enough. You would have to use two of them and link them to form a sigmoidal shape. What seems a bit problematic for me is how to attach them to the Force. I would use the screws holding the sides – 4 of them on each side at the bottom of the instrument. What worries me is that they are rather thin and probably too short, so would need to be replaced with longer ones.

I would gladly provide some photos of my creations, but I'm in the middle of a renovation and all my gear is stashed and not accessible at all. If you are patient enough to wait two-three weeks, I can upload them.
