It's really hard to watch people who know better get continually burned... when they lay down at night knowing they've now spent about $1000 in software unlockables on a pay to win platform do they honestly feel good about that? Personally it makes me feel like a sucker to pay for software let alone to unlock a feature embedded in it.

F*ckin sickening to me that this is akais whole business plan and everyone seems to be ok with getting on their knees for this completely shitty company sapping its users. Literally sapping them. What a garbage device, out if all the shit i own this one is the only one that has a scene of faboys who will defend their prison pimp shoving his c*ck up their ass repeatedly.

I’m pretty much on the same boat except that “garbage device” part. It still have potential imho, but since AKAI became the behringer of middle class, it’s going nowhere :(
As for fanboys… yeah it puzzles me as well and that’s one of the reasons I have mildly negative attidute towards Youtubers or I should rather say - people who despite having several Elektron devices, Deluges, Oxis and other nice sequencers on the table still praise AKAI for their eye candy plugins :o . It seems that the more they add the less fun it is…

If not MPC, what instead? Which company has a friendlier policy and bodes well for the future?

Completely agree. I've said it on the GS forums, on the beta forums, on the old Akai forums, and now here - most of the updates we've been fed are either re-skins/rearranged versions of something we already had (preview menus, 3.0), or slightly reworked versions of code that already existed (literally any effect or plugin). I firmly believe they don't know how to dig themselves out of the hole they created (see MIDI bug) and their ridiculous marketing (GAME CHANGING LEGENDARY 30 YEAR HISTORICAL MULTIBAND FILTER) certainly doesn't help address the very real issues people have had with their gear.

Oh, you mean like when they deleted their own support forums? How about earlier this year when they got rid of their support chat function?

In what universe does their broken activation system and outdated-before-it's-released CPU bode well for the future?

I agree with this thinking so much.. it sickens me..
However, I have Elektron, TE, etc.. and I'm making complete bangers.. I'm not trying to brag or anything, but I'm completely convinced that I couldn't make my music as good on any other platform.. and believe me I have tried.. something about MPC is just so wicked.. so I guess I hate Akai, but love their device I guess?? Anyway that is my answer.. nothing else is coming close, at any price besides like Appleton, or logic.. but they don't swing it hit as hard as MPC and Machine isn't it either.. so I stick with what I have always used.. keep trying other stuff though. The newest MPC generation is goat though to me.

Reaper. its free. add on cardinal, speed drum, tal plugins, and jsfx lite also free -and you got enough that the mpc doesnt compare. Esp. if you stick it on a good machine. I have 16 x the ram and exponentially more processing power 8 theads at 4ghz.

True, but they dont bust your balls if you never purchase a licence. So its basically free and a licence for it is rather cheaply if you're the paying type.

It's so cheap, that you must be a miserable miser not to pay the price.

But there even capable DAWs around if you don't have any money to spend. Given the incredible number of excellent free VSTs you only have to pay for your PC/Mac.

I run a free DAW, Cakewalk. I've been with them since '93. I've been through many laptops over that time, and now it runs on a Desktop PC, that if somethings breaks I can change it (Not the whole machine because that component is no longer available). And I can upgrade it to run with a new GPU soon to step into Blender world.

I don't want to do music on a laptop ever again. I want to play out live at some point and the MPC is great for that. Especially since they've added USB compatible soundcards, so I can run my synths through it and use it as a mixer, and fx for the synths. Being able to trigger tracks on the MPC makes it perfect for live. Having been through 3 decades of dance music, I'm not a fan of laptop sets. So the MPC is perfect for me. I ma however stuck on Version 2 software. If I had to go down the laptop set, I would run Ableton.

In the past year I've spent $50 on Subfactory and Clipper. This filterbank came free, I may have spent $30 on it in the next year, but otherwise I wouldn't plan on picking it up. So I don't se Akai getting that much out of me, and I am happy with both these plugins. Am I pissed at the midi bug not being sorted, yes, and it affects my workflow. Am I disgruntled they removed functions that affect performing live in version 3, yes, this brings in lots of uncertainty for me.
