Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

Hi! I am considering buying MPC Key 37 to be used in standalone mode, away from computer but am not sure if 2 GB of RAM will be enough for me. I've looked at manuals of these 2 plugins and there is no info about the sizes of included instruments. Can someone please let me know if I will be able to load the following in MPC Key 37 (will prefer to be able to load XL versions of Fabric XL):

Track 1: 1 acoustic drums kit, The Modern Session Kit (12 Velocity Layers set from MPC-Samples)

Tracks 2,3,4,5,6,7,8: 7 instances of Fabric XL (1 acoustic guitar patch, 1 electric guitar Les Paul patch, 1 electric guitar Strat patch, 1 electric bass guitar patch, 1 grand piano patch, 1 pads patch and 1 Full Choir Aah patch)

Track 9: 1 Studio Strings (all string ensemble) patch

If not possible, what about if I buy MPC Key 61 with 4 GB of RAM instead, will 4 GB be enough?

Thanks :worthy:
Best Regards,
Danijel

MPC Key61, 4gb, v2.15, this is 78% with low memory warning showing.

Hi Lampdog, thanks a bunch man for taking time to check this for me, I really appreciate it 8)

MPC-Tutor wrote:In a 2GB MPC, Fabric XL uses 14% per instance, irrespective of the patch loaded. So that's 98% ram.
Studio strings = 31% per instance (all patches)

Modern Session Kit is an additional 7% for the 16 articulation 12 velocity patch, 13% for a snapshot patch.

Hi and thanks so much for this info MPC-Tutor! But forgot to ask how much % approx. of the RAM takes MPC OS? And, am I correct that for the MPC Key 61 (4GB RAM) one Fabric XL instance takes half as much as for Key 37, which means 7%? If yes, that means that 7 instances of Fabrix XL takes up 49% + 15.5% for the Studio Strings full ensemble patch, that is 64.5% total RAM for Key 61. If this is correct, how come that Lampdog said for him (7 instances of Fabric XL + 1 Studio Strings instance in MPC Key 61) it takes 78% of RAM with low memory warning showing? Did he maybe made a mistake or am I wrong? Thanks a bunch!

The % ram shown in the the MPC is % of available space after the operating system is accounted for. I don't have a 4GB model but Lamp does, so I'd go with what he's stating. Arguably the key should have 3 times the available ram, as the OS uses around 1GB, so it has 3GB spare compared to 1GB on the MPC Live/One etc. But perhaps the 4GB models use up more RAM in the first place.

Yes, standalone MPC OS takes up RAM, you will never get a full 2gb/4gb for your personal usage, never.

I took the time to load up the exact patches or as close as I could get to them in the post above.

My suggestion would be to Bounce certain tracks to Audio Samples after you're set with how those Instrument Plug-ins will sound in the mix. That would free up alot of Ram

Thanks MPC-Tutor again! Great, just wonder about 3 more things. Can I have different Fabric versions (Fabric and Fabric XL) loaded in the same project? For example, for electric guitar instruments on track 1 and 2 I would load Fabric XL versions but for all other instruments on tracks 3, 4, 5 ... I would load Fabric version. Possible? Also, am I correct that Fabric version of instruments takes approx. half as much RAM as Fabric XL? And, are all Fabric instruments available in both Fabric XL and Fabric versions? Thanks!
