Iirc that was also my experience when I tried Beats with the silver Studio...
About 3 years ago I bought it as a cheapo to get some acquaintance with the MPC way and basically liked it a lot.
But the more recent the software, the less support for the silver box.
I settled with „Essentials 1.3“ on MacOS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) which fortunately was on the DVD coming with the machine.
To be precise: I used the silver Studio on rather underpowered hardware (Dell tablet i3, MacMini 2012), according to Akai requirements.
The main flaw were very obvious hickups whenever the sequencer ran with screen display engaged.
With the MPC software hidden and only the Studio display active it was quite ok.
Quality plugins were unusable, but that didn‘t bother me because I use mostly external processing anyway.
For some setup action the computer screen was really useful (sample lists, drag&drop kits, routing, etc), and for playing I simply minimized the app. All good...
To me it was very clear that Akai was steering away from the classic mode of operation.
So I grabbed a MPC4000 as soon as one showed up in the neighborhood.
(fortunately fully expanded and with digital and Adat io)
I kept the silver Studio, though. It‘s just retired atm.
