Damn, the MPC is so close to being a nice looper - most of the pieces are present, bar the UI. The unification of MIDI and audio makes it even closer: the MIDI tracks having always been essentially a MIDI looper... Yet another bit of thinking that leads to the Ableton clip matrix which, like Zenbeat's, is awfully close to a workable looper.

Plz. Akai Santa Claus, add that and you'll appropriate most of the RC-505 Mk2 market.

Ps: add a vocoder effect too, as the RC-505 Mk2 seems to have embedded a whole VT-4 !

I think we're all saying the opposite; it's a shitty looper, tied to a metronome, it only overdubs, only operable in a touchscreen... No way it can compete with a basic looper pedal, far less with an advanced machine like the rc500.

The MPC is a totally different animal, which can also work as a looper under certain restrictions. Not a looper on its own.

... For now. Force discontinuation and track alignment across all sequences hint at a clip matrix on MPC, if Akai is smart enough. On that basis, an Ableton-like looper (the clip matrix as a looper - not what Ableton calls the looper !) is not far beyond - witness Zenbeats which, like MPC 3.0, offers to start with loops (both MIDI and audio) in a clip matrix (which MPC 3.0 doesn't have yet) for live and fooling around, and then unroll them in a long sequence for the final arrangement phase... Call it DAW carcinization !

Even better, the 505, It’s a beast, simple, powerful at what it does.
