When you use samples from records, they usually have some reverb baked in, and most likely a different reverb or at least different settings were used on each record. So putting such samples together is incoherent? :)

It's not to say that a nice reverb wouldn't be nice.

Of course is incoherent, that's why those samples get edited and cleaned when used.
Then they are mixed again with the rest, to glue all together.
Now make a test: put 8 different sounds on a project, each with a different reverb.
Then put the same 8 different sounds in another project with just one reverb on s/r, and send each sound to the reverb accordingly.
Then tell me which one sounds better.

HouseWithoutMouse wrote:Do you mean, 8 different samples taken from 8 different records, sounding at the same time on top of each other? Do you do that kind of thing regularly?

No.
I mean, take 8 sounds and put a different reverb in insert for each one of them.
Then take the same 8 sounds, put one reverb in return, send each sound to the same reverb.
Then tell me which of the two projects sounds more defined and cleaner.

Speaking about the sample from records, you usually edit and eq/comp/filter or whatever, then you mix it with the rest, so it's ok if there is a reverb baked on it.
Whatever you do is ok if it sounds good for you.
But different reverbs can cause phase issues and frequency cancellations, something that doesn't happen if the reverb is one.
Then you can tell me that the difference is too subtle for you and so you don't care much about that, and I can say it's ok, maybe you are right.
That doesn't mean that using just one Reverb in send doesn't make your mix cleaner and more defined

No one is asking for the standalone MPC to host 30 instances of Serum VST or iZotope Ozone 37 Super Awesome Edition. Improved effects is very much in the realm of a realistic ask.

is it possible? of course the mpc has enough power to run better fx plug ins... but if you are new to things when it comes to akai pro... don't hold your breath. That being said, in the current line of mpcs... they have changed quite a bit as a company.. they actually support their ecosystem compared to every previous in-music akai product.... If they ever decide to do it though, chances are it will be a paid upgrade and perhaps included with a new hardware model.

Yep. But notice that the 99.9% of the music you listen have a reverb on the s/r of a mixer.
And the 0% of this 99.9% has an Air Reverb of Mpc.

I don't think we need to see a picture of where that data was pulled from.

Exactly!

Nice, it's one of my favourite albums of all time. Pure art.
Do you know how many recording studios Kevin Shields travelled in UK and USA to mix that album as he wanted to?
And yes, a lot of reverb on that album.
Even if Reverb is subtle, short, almost unnoticeable, it's in every record of music we listen to.
Voices have reverb, guitars, keys, hats and ride of drums, sometimes snare, flutes, strings.
Reverbs give back the frequencies you lose with mics, glues the mix, gives space.

Agreed!

19, according to the link I posted. Thank heavens for Alan Moulder and Anjali Dutt - I doubt Keven Shields would have ever finished the album had it not been for them.

I mean don't get me wrong - I'm 100% on board that in most "traditional" productions, reverb on S&R is absolutely the way to go. Just don't count out the creative ways that it can be used as an insert as well. Soooo many possibilities. I know the existing MPC/Force hardware could handle a more complex reverb - quite easily in fact. Whether we'll eventually see one or not is anyone's guess, but I wouldn't count Air or Akai out just yet. I'm sure they have a lot of things planned for the life-cycle of the MPC over the next year(s). :smoker:

I don't count out anything, as I said in a post before, if it sounds good for you, it's good, you are the only one who can choose what's good or not with your own music.
That's how Kevin Shields thought too and Creation was going bankrupt for that.
I am joking.
Just what I am saying is that Reverb is the most used effect on mixing and since MPC is going to be a standalone mixing box, maybe a better reverb would make sense for everyone.
Talking about reverbs, what about Slowdive? Do you also like them? I absolutely love them.
They use tons of Reverb in every track, voice, guitars or whatever, they cannot live without reverbs, they are addicted, poor guys

I just saw Slowdive back in November, and they sounded probably better than they ever have. Absolutely MAGICAL show. Rachel had her Roland Juno 106. I saw them back in the 90's and I don't remember them sounding nearly as good. They've actually gotten better!
