Different "tracks" on different Sequences in 3.4.1?

I got an MPC One 2 weeks ago, I'm adjusting from MPC 2000, 1000, 2500 world. We were always able to have different programs per track per sequence, that was the case in 2.15, is that no longer possible?

I realize programs are now tracks, but are they completely inflexible now?

Say, I make a beat with 3 sequences and then create a new sequence to start a fresh beat.
Beat 1 (sequences 1-3) uses funky drummer chopped into slices on track 1, and Beat 2 (sequences 4-8) used Synthetic Substitution, do I have to put that on a new track and still have a track called Funky Drummer on track 1 even though it's not used in Sequence 4-8?

No longer possible, a track runs through all sequences within a project, so track 1 is the exact same track in seq 1, seq 2, seq 3 etc. Same track settings, same kit/instrument etc.

This was always the implied way to organise a song, for example converting a song to a seq was only ever possible if you ensured each sequence used the same track structure and same kit. You were able to ignore this in MPC2, now it's the only way (for various reasons, for example to accommodate disk streaming).

You have to reset the way your brain approaches a project; different kit = different track, so if you need to bring a different kit into your song, it has to go on a new track.

Ultimately though I would also suggest, whenever possible, to consider each project to be one 'composition', again this was always the implied usage of projects. So if you need to start a completely new beat, start a new project. A project could also be used to accommodate multiple variations of the same beat/ theme, as generally they would likely share the same core track structure.

But I do understand that some instances people want multiple distinct beats in a single project, for example for live sets etc. In which case you'll need to use the different track option and I would suggest you colour code your tracks (beat 1 = red tracks 1-8, beat 2 = blue tracks 9-18 etc).

I always have enjoyed making a bunch of beats in one project, like a set. Lots more chances for serendipity. And definitely more useful for a live setting. I'm going to experiment with using a more templated approach Track 1 drums, Track 2 main sample etc, and try to use all the extra banks that usually go unused.

Like Track 1 Bank A: Funky Drummer, Bank B: Synthetic Substitution...

Now I just gotta learn how to merge sliced samples into new banks of the same "track", I think the direct pad recording will help with that. Sort of like SP404 style, I guess.

Is there a way to convert chops to an existing Drum Track in a new Bank without doing it one at at time? If not, that would be a super useful feature to implement, AKAI (if you're listening)
