Turning on my MPC X SE, I received a static shock from the unit.

When it finished booting and my monitors were on, I noticed a very pronounced buzz from my Left Speaker, which is also present when I connect headphones to the front outputs.

How screwed am I?

I’ve had the unit from new (B stock) for 4 weeks, purchased in the UK from juno records.

Do I need to raise a warranty repair?

Yes, let them know exactly what happened and see about getting another one.

I returned the unit today, will wait and see what they say.

Surely this isn’t a common issue tho? How can I avoid another destructive static shock in the future, ground myself every time I want to touch the machine?

I was refunded for the unit. And have since bought another.

I'm not gonna quit!

I hope the new unit works out for you. Some people would've sued them by saying something like they now some sort of gear PTSD or some BS & with a good enough lawyer who knows they could've gotten a settlement. Glad you ain't sweatin' it. They could have a "Law & Order" type show based on the stories on this forum.

I see a lot of issues with these X mpc's, and still none of broken units for repair appear on reverb, ebay or etc.
I'd love to get one in my hands and try to fix it, this thing is no different as common laptop is

Why You assume that i'm talking about repairing myself an mpc that is still under warranty?
Someday i will grab an broken unit, open it up, try to fix and make a documentation about this repair - just for my own amusement

I apologise, I should have said that I can’t attempt a repair because I don’t have the skills or tools needed to effectively a repair. I’ve no doubt it’s an easy fix in the right hands, but those hands aren’t mine.

If they’re yours however, I see a productive future in bringing out of warranty units back to life.

No problem, i've developed some skills after successfuly diagnosed and repaired couple of macbooks, pc laptops and a ton of vintage studio equipment.
My current mpc live 2 retro is still running, but it is after warranty, and when it's time will come i will happily open it up and try to diagnose and repair, with proper documentation of the process.
