Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

I dont think you completely understood what I said. I would love to have an MPC 60 or a 3000. And I know they are amazing machines. I will never say otherwise and as I said they are worth every last penny. I just dont think that people should blow a lot more money then they should. Especially if you are a young aspiring producer with little cash. I was just encouraging people to be smarter with the amount of money they spend on equipment. Trust me I've spent a lot of money on mine (but intelligently).

I would not be satesfied with a 2000, 1000, or a 4000. all MPC's are not for everybody. in fact, when I was going to get my 60 my friend suggested a 2k, but I knew. There is no universal, stuff has to fit you.

Like this one, look at the $700 B-I-N price, add O.S., SCSI, and RAM it look what you actually pay.

Unexpanded MPC60

They are great units but expanding them is pretty much mandatory so if you get on that's not expanded you have to figure that into the cost.

Of course, you gotta figure that from the start, people need to know about what they are going to buy. I knew about all the upgrades and the limits of the 60 when I bought it, and I paid market value for mine, I don't love it because it was cheap, I love it because it does what it does very well.

Look at all the 1000 owners, the forum has at least 3 bugs, issues, or flat out failure reprts at all times, yet they feel they spent good money, cuz it's cheap? I'm not sure, but they sure put up with a lot of errors. It may not be worth it to you, but to some people there is no substitute.

It's funny how everything has to be some kind of bargain to be good in so many people's opinions. If the 60 is gaining price and the 3000 is dropping, that may say something about people's perception besides that they don't know as much as you.

Also, ebay sellers prices are often misleading, it doesn't mean someone will buy it, but then people get a 60, and see that other 60's with upgrades are selling high, so they price according to that due to their ignorance, cuz they don't know the difference or price of an upgrade. It is worth what they actually change hands for, that's it.

so...

was $800 fair for my 60II w/ OS 3.10 and expanded memory?

and another note regarding my sequencing troubles:

is there a default setting to the count-in function? i want the count-in to go for one bar before the machine will start to record my 4-bar sequence. do you usually keep this setting the same for all recorded sequences?

Yo Skala, you'd definitly love a 60, but you got an XL and if you like it you should stick with it. especially if you use xl specific features a lot.

The 60 is not better just different.

By elmacaco Tue Feb 15, 2005 10:13 pm
Each is better in it's own way, depends on the person which one is better.

So yeah, they are different.

Yeah, I always trip on people getting defensive on their MPC.
I preferred a 60II EXp over a 2000, but preferred a xl over the 60II.
What I ended up with was the xl and a 60I EXp.
Sometimes I like to use the fast gunner aspects of the xl and sometimes I don't.
The different MPC's just seem to take your inspiration in different directions and I like that.

I agree here, I use both in my setup. The XL and 60 are midi'd up so I can have the benefits of each machine. For example, since the 60 has 4 midi outs I can run all of my modules and the computer synths from Reason, not to mention the warm sound the 60 adds to my 808s.
