MPC Live 2.15 - Track mutes for live sets

I actually work in a very similar way - I make all my sounds & bare bones of tracks in Cubase with a mixture of VST instruments & samples, break everything down to hits & small clips, and then build my program out of all the pieces on the MPC, adding FX where needed.
Happy to hear you're still rocking the beats, I'm an older gent compared to most that I encounter doing anything similar. I'm a bit behind you there, but even at 50 it feels wild to be actually playing gigs for my primary source of income at my age! Long may we continue! And thanks again!
For sure, I understand what you mean completely about playing live - most important thing for me in that regard is to not get mistaken for a DJ just playing backing tracks!
I have two live projects - one with a singer & another with an MC that's more classic 90's hip hop vibes (we have a gig tonight, will be my first time using the MPC Live for a show!)
Regarding the MPC Live - I don't use or have need for the plug in instruments as I have a DAW for that already. All I really need is the modern equivalent of my old MPC 1000 but with 2GB RAM instead of 128mb, & some better effects! So - I've figured the best move is to roll back the OS further still to the last stable v2 firmware that has the same track mute setup as my 1K with JJOS.
Now all I need to do is figure out WHICH version - this is the tricky part - I've read that both 2.8 & 2.11 were when the track mute problem started, so I'm trying to find out which is correct!

I can't think of a way to make this work using only the MPC Live. (This could be an easy fix for Akai—imagine if you could stay in the mute screen and, by activating Shift Lock, the pads would respond accordingly to the program.) However, depending on your performance style, one possible workaround could be using multiple sequences for different sections (hooks, verse, chorus, breaks, etc.). That way, you can stay on the main screen, use the pads, and toggle between sequences with the main rotary. It’s still not exactly what you're looking for, though...

Unfortunately the sequence plan wouldn't really work for my either. I just need to be able to still trigger sounds when I mute out a track (drums / bass / keys)
I have the LPD8 for the track mutes, but this machine refuses to map it..
I just rolled the OS back to 2.11, & all the same problems are there.
I'm loosing my patience with this thing..

Being able to play pads while a track is muted is one of those things that everyone seems to think worked at one point in the past, but I really can't remember when that was, but I reckon it would be some way back, maybe before 2.8 (which was when there were some MIDI overhauls) - so 2.7.2 might be worth trying. I have some legacy MPC Software installs on my Mac, but I can only get 2.9.1 launching (the track mute issue is present there).

Oh thank you - yes this is something I've been researching & failing to pin down to a specific version when the track mutes changed. Doesn't really help that there are way too many different versions & tiny updates!
I've just downloaded 2.8.1 which I'll try tomorrow, but I'll have a dig around the web & see if I can find 2.7.2 - interesting you mentioned the MIDI change up too, that's the other big problem I've been having aside from the track mutes, MIDI mapping isn't working for me at all. This might be the OS I need to get back to JJOS functionality

2.8.1 was the last time midi note off bug wasn't present, too, right? Lmk how the track mutes go, I'd be tempted to roll back too.

I can confirm that the last version to support playing pads over a muted track was 2.7.2. I tested with the MPC Software (recorded a track, muted it in track mute screen, back to main, pads heard fine over muted track).

2.8 seems to be the version that changed it all. This was when they introduced the enhanced midi support (USB midi interfaces, deeper midi routing etc).

Ok!! 2.7.2 is all good so far!
Track mutes & playable pads are back the way I need them which is a big step up from where I've been at this last week.
MIDI mapping is still a bit shot though, the mapping part seemed much better with the LPD8 but it's somehow triggering samples instead of track mutes, so I've a lot more tweaking to do still it seems.

Nice, it's a good thing that works. Tbh i misunderstood your struggle. I thought you were looking for a way to play pads while being in the mute screen...

I thought I actually figured out what I was doing wrong with mapping the LPD8 this morning, but nope.. still won't perform a very simple task..
