New to MPC. Thinking of X se

Hi all

I’m a long time follower of the forum. But never had a reason for joining. But now I could use your guidance:

I’m from Denmark, so bare over with me for grammar issues etc.

Background: I’m a Long time hobby musician, having played piano, acoustic guitars, elec. Bass etc. for +25 years. But while enjoying playing classical music and more bluesy music (dr. John-ish), I’ve also got a long lasting love for electronic music too (underworld, Chem. Brothers, fat boy slim, aphex twins, junior boys etc)

So, until a couple years ago I mainly played my instruments. But then I wanted to start to look into the “art” of recording/sequencing music and playing with sound creation etc. I looked at the orig. MPC live and it’s rivals but ended up with the op-1F - which have been great!
But now I want to move into MPC territorie. The op-1 is still great - and I could probably get more out of it than I do. But I would still like to have a MPC in the center of my stuff.
I have had my eyes on the MPC X se for some time now, but I having a bit of doubts whether this is a good time to get into MPCs with the introduction of MPC3 and the lack of a MPC3 bible (I have always though of the MPC-bible as the croutch I would need to fully help me get rooted in this new world)

So bottom line: is now a good time to purchase a MPC X se? Or should I be discouraged by the entry of MPC3 or is it a good thing, having no daw experience at all? (And sorry, no interest in working in Ableton, Keys+mouse. Perhaps for the last 10%. And again, this is my feel good thing - not my quest to become a serious “producer”)

I also took the MPC X SE jump last month - it appears no new hardware is on the horizon after the Akai event so I pulled the trigger.

It's a superb device (though very big!) ,I love using it and sampling is amazing and easy. My only negative is that sometimes when on the bed or couch, kitchen etc I often wish I also had a Live II to play with.

The MPC 3 bible should be out any week now! He is working hard on it

I'm still a newbie to the MPC world but if you've got the space, go for it. I tried the ONE for a while as my first entry into Akai land, but returned it as the touch screen was too fiddly and accident prone for me, and the multiplexed Q-links were too much of a compromise. Tried a few other platforms but came back to Akai and took the plunge with the X-SE. So glad I did as I hadn't realised the difference a larger screen makes. Even though I'm still not a fan of touch screens, the bigger 'buttons' make it easier to operate, and the individual Q-links are a joy to use. The extra memory and Sounds bundle are a bonus.
