i dunno genres are all made up anyway. but at work a zoomer listens to that new distorted rap stuff and it rubbed off on me because i made some 808-type basslines.
think this is the first song i've completed on my 1000 since getting it. pretty much everything is samples.
- bell-type sound is korg ex-8000 being triggered on a midi channel
- behringer neutron doing a subtle filter sweep through rackmount filter on a midi channel
- main drum beat sampled from volca drum
- 808s were sampled from a volca kick, some run through a distortion pedal
- sampled a few notes/sounds off a volca fm for like texture/harmony/pads
- just shitloads of one shots, build/fills/sweeps, ear candy, etc
pretty much used up all 4 banks & multiple programs because i went so dependent on the 1000 to get familiar with jjos; i had a 2000xl for like 15 years that i upgraded from, so this song was kind of more an experiment with adapting to jjos, remapping muscle memory, etc.
as usual, everything is done on the mpc i.e. i compose & arrange on it, move around & edit my sequences, begin to build a song off these sequences, dump everything into song mode by the end, and then all i have to do is hit play on the sequencer and record through my mackie mixer into a digital one.
i dunno, i just have like, a normal mackie mixer and mediocre outboard gear, so i don't really worry about my mixes much and can't master for shit with any of this stuff, so not too worried about something less than 100 people will hear. but it did pass the car speaker test earlier. and i'm beginning to focus more on the audio quality side of things, so that will improve over time.
