Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

For those who were interested in OS 2.14 (OG 2.12 but with SCSI), one of the members of the MPC 60 FB group got in contact with VST Service and although they don't advertise it, they do sell 2.14!

He's got his copy already, mine is in the mail

At this time, zip drives don't seem to be working but ZuluSCSI is confirmed working. I'll also test SCSI2SD when mine arrives although I expect it will work fine. ZuluSCSI is the better option IMO though.

Shoot them an email, it's US$55 speed within the USA (I paid US$26 postage to Aus).

I've already had a couple of people ask for an EPROM dump when they arrive. I don't really want to, I see this as an opportunity for us to support VST Service who have supported us for a very long time.

As I mentioned above, it adds SCSI compatibility but to my knowledge is is otherwise the same as 2.12.

2.14 isn't the latest OS mate.

3.10 was the last one followed by the 3.15 Vimana which was built atop of 3.10.

It depends on how you like at it. 2.14 was the latest to OS come from Akai.

If your rationale helps you sleep better at night, then kudos to you.

I love you.

I prefer 2.12/2.14 to 3.10/3.15 for that reason. I can't tell you if there's truth to it though because I've not got the ability to test it scientifically.

I bought a 60 in October just before moving house and haven't had a chance to play with it. I maxed it out, added SCSI with 3.10. I have no point of reference for the timing. If anyone has any examples of the OG swing compared to 3.10 please share!

I was holding out to support VST Service (they've now listed it on their eBay store) but if it's out there anyway, here's my Google drive link that also includes working ZuluSCSI images.

Cool of you to share.

Attempted to try them out -- are the 2.14 ROM chips dumped in the correct order?

Does OS 3.15B fix weird disconnected feel of OS3.1. My inturptetation was that the feel-change was related to a fundamental change in the data-structure, which inserted an extra midi note-number layer between sequence events and sound triggering. It's like you are spinning a plate on the end of a stick and you put another plate & stick on top of that. It's different. But it's not impossible that it could be improved with software optimisation. I wonder if OS3.15 makes any progress in this reguard ?
