Flatten pad is a 'bounce in place', reseting the pad parameters to defaults, doing away with any FX etc. The original sample(s) remain in the sample pool, but you won't have any record of what settings were applied before flattening.

Bouncing to a track, or 'resampling' audio via the sampler will leave the 'source' and all its settings 'as is' as it produces a completely separate file, but it's less convenient.

If the aim is to just create 'portable' samples for use in standalone or for distribution then flatten pad is almost always the best option, but there are times when resampling is better, for example, flatten pad doesn't include simultaneous play layers. And as mentioned before, for batch editing of 100s of samples , you'll find bouncing a track and then slicing to be more efficient.

Watched a couple tuts, and it does indeed look very easy/simple.

But, another n00b Q... what's the diff b/n Flatten and Bounce?
I know Bounce just means that - bounce into a single sample.
Flatten looks very similar... is the difference is that it includes all the samples, bounced, plus any of your saved pad programmings/settings I assume?

’m aware RX950 can’t work in standalone-mode and only works in controller-mode.

since you are still thinking about this, grab an s2400 with the dsp card. the rx950 can be installed on the dsp card and used standalone on the s2400. ive got an Xse , the lm drum, and a s2400.

im an old mpc 60II + s950 user. moved to the mpc2kxl when it came out, then moved on to the new mpcs. i missed the workflow of the mpc 60II + s950 but now on the 2400 since the dsp card is now a thing, having access to the rx950 in standalone is really great. ive never used daws, but i got one just to fool around with the rx950 ( and rx1200). im happy now i dont have to fool with a daw anymore for this plugin.

I actually started this thread because I am finally planning on selling my S2400.

Mainly because its' midi-sequencer is totally incapable for sequencing external-synths (no pitch/mod/CC sequencing, also a huge road-block is that it cuts-off any long/sustained midi-notes upon each loop repetition [no loop-boundary sequencing, or sequencing in-b/n end-start points]). Even my old mpc60 was capable of all this. But, I am sure the S2400 is perfect for people not sequencing external-synths.

Even if a better midi-seq was implemented in the S2400, there’s prolly still gonna be mad bugs, a lot of menu-diving (since the keypad/buttons is just numeric and not specific like on an MPC), odd quirks and also still very difficult to edit per step w/ arrow buttons.
I've waited 5-6+ years for maybe a fw update addressing these midi-seq issues... finally giving up and selling it.

Nothing really beats the general mpc workflow; I sure do miss it.

I plan to just get the X, mainly for all its’ 1/4" outputs (to go to my 24ch Mackie mixer connected to my vintage fx racks) and also lots of midi-ins/outs, as well as its’ 16 q-link knobs & more buttons (more buttons, less menu diving) and just run RX950, RX1200 to satisfy my 12-bit needs.

Mint S2400 up for sale if anyone wants to buy it, PM me.

ive got a MOTU miditimepiece XL and all my gear is SMPTE'd and referenced from that. if i need to automate something on the 2400, i can record it onto my Xse and play it back to the 2400 since it responds to midi. i understand what you mean about menu diving and the such -- i only bought the 2400 because i cant afford the sp1200. i dont need all the bells and whistles - just an og sound with the classic filters.

anyway i totally understand why you are moving on with it.

I will def get the RX950, it seems/sounds amazing from what I've researched.

Since plug-ins are so cheap (compared to the real machines, lol), might as well get an SP1200 emulation as well.
The SP950 seems like a great insert-fx emulation of the SP1200 (w/ a 950 filter).
I'm sure there's plenty of thread here about it... but, what do you guys think of the SP950's sound?

I know there's the RX1200 too... but, it's a VSTi instrument (I'm more interested in super simple insert-fx).
