Extracting sequences from project in OS3

Ok, so I was working on reconfiguring an OS2 project in OS3, tortuous but I got somewhere with it, saved it, said goodnight; this morning i try to load the OS3 version I saved; it’s corrupted.

So I go to the project folder to start rebuilding it - but the sequences are not in the project folder, just the samples.

Somebody please me this is not what I’m left with. Is all that work gone for good? Is there no way of extracting the sequences from the project file? Is this another reason to be an angry old MPChead shouting at an OS3-shaped cloud?

So the sequence data is actually within the 'xpj' file (gzip compressed, json data), but I don't think there is such a thing as a 'sequence' anymore, well, not the 'seq' file at least. The XPJ is really just a combined collection of 'track data' (identical to what you get when you save a track file).

So as I discovered to my dismay when working on the MPC Bible 3, there is no easy way to 'save a sequence' any more. If I need to move that sequence to another project, I have to 'save > track' for every track in the sequence and then reload these tracks in the new project (in browser, hold down SHIFT and ensure 'LOAD SEQUENCES' is enabled - this will also load all track data).

Not sure if they ever intend bringing 'seq' files back, I do appreciate that there are lots of complications with this due to the way each sequence in a project now expects a specific track structure, so loading multitrack sequences into another project could get messy.

Thanks for that Tutor, very detailed. So now it’s kind of like a track archive in Cubase… yet another bit of the architecture they’ve banjaxed. The flexibility of having access to project components, whether they were programs or sequences, was so useful… and coherent. I hope that arranger was worth it - given all the damage it’s wreaked - for the folks who really wanted it. I haven’t had any use for it yet. I could cry… or scream.

I think disk streaming is ultimately the source of the whole unified track thing and all the pain. Arranger is just another single sequence view, like main, I don't think it has any bearing on all this. But disk streaming, personally I haven't really used it and I don't really see too much chatter about it considering the years of endless whining about needing it. I do think Akai have made a mistake with unified tracks, there must have been a way to accomodate it for those that wanted it vs those who prefer the mpc2 style of working.

Yes, thinking back the MPC4K was able to do some of the flexing around tracks - changing the order for example - without relying on the 1 to 1 structure.

And no, nobody seems to talk about disk streaming at all. I haven’t used it anymore than I’ve used the arranger. Maybe it’s for massive sample libraries?
