Hi all,

I opened a project and it said this! "MPC project is missing files". This is so annoying!

The file was a nearly hour long audio file I was working on, and now I can't open it and it has disappeared. Does anyone have any idea how I can get it back? I exported it before this so luckily I have the latest version. I am wondering if exporting it corrupted the file of some sort. It has never happened before and means I can't get in and edit the audio.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Natalie x

Is this on MPC3? If so, it likely did save the file to disk, it's probably in the project folder. There seems to be an inadvertent memory limit on what it will load back up. For instance, it will load about 5 full programs fine but if the project has 6 of them then trying to load the project throws "file missing" and "incompatible file type" (on perfectly fine files). Even stranger, the missing files are random across several programs. I could see it doing that for a big long file as it does seem to be tied to total memory used.

Side note, the MPC as a plugin has done this same thing since version 2.0.

My humble suggestion, if it applies, is to dig the files out of the project folder and recreate the song in version 2.x. Good luck.

Hello,

Thank you so much for your reply. This is on MPC3 yes. It is so frustrating! The file is an hour long as I am creating a podcast in it, perhaps not the best idea now in hindsight.

Do you mean that the project files just get randomly scattered everywhere? Do you know where I should look?

The strange thing is it done the same 'missing files' thing to a project I had that was only a few minutes!

Thanks so much for your help,

Natalie

Not that the files get scattered everywhere. Just that on my missing files the missing ones are random across multiple tracks. My template has a lot of itty-bitty one shots. I mean really a lot. So if you're experiencing the same thing as me with basically one big one, it makes me think that it's related to the total memory footprint of the project. Definitely a bad bug.

In my case, it did actually save all the files that it now claims are missing, they are right there in the project folder. So, I'd use your computer's file explorer (not the MPC browser) and look in that folder. Your recording very well might be in there. Then you might reconstruct your project in 2.x or in another software. Not ideal of course but what else can we do I guess. I hope it did save it in there. Good luck Boss.
