Get yourself a cheapo amazon usb/uart dongle and plug it in directly into the board (I see you have the header soldered already). Plug it in then download putty, connect to your laptop and check if uboot shows up in the terminal and if it is, what errors it throws up. If it doesn't come to uboot stage your emmc is toast, you might try to reflash it with emmc image but given you had some sort of psu shorts, it's most likely dead.
Where in UK is that Akai repair place and where in UK are you ?

Why are You considering buing whole new carrier board? give mpc to some skilled laptop service technician, don't know where are You located but every country has own Louis Rossmann, contact him/her and get it done.
Even in Poland we have some service magicians that love to take some broken unusual piece of electronics and repair it for clicks and views.

Replace is not repair!


I contacted an authorised Akai technician, they said they wouldn't attempt to repair it. My local PC repair place was not interested either.

Occasional lurker long time MPC owner. Setup an account to reply here as I may be able to help a bit further.

The 19v coming from the power supply will run to various regulators, 5v, 3.3v, probably 1.8v and maybe more. These will then power the various parts of the MPC. You've confirmed you are getting 19v, so the next step would be to check the regulators are working to take that down to usable voltages.

Hopefully there will be test points on the board somewhere labelled 5v 3.3v etc. I can't see them on the photos posted so far. Maybe try removing the silver heatsink and look under there?

If there's no helpful labels its a case of identifying which ICs are the voltage regulators. Read the markings printed on the chips and search them in Google. If you post some more photos of under the heatsink and any areas you haven't photographed I'll try help.

It'll be tricky without schematics, but you might get lucky and find the fault.

You know... local PC repair in 95% are bored people which only focus in easy work like installing cleanmymac, or placing shortcut for internet on desktop for dumb customers.

Im talking Louis Rossmann, Paul Daniels, Dosdude1 level technicians - there are the ones You should look for

This is a good idea, while I haven't found test points there actually seems to be check LED's for different voltages.

It seems I'm getting +5v, +3.3V, +1.8V, but not +3.3V_SQM

Without schematics I'm not sure where to go next. These LEDs come on for a few seconds after the power buttons are pressed, then go out. This coincides with the pads doing part of their lightshow. Then everything dies.

I bought a USB->TTL connection but don't really know where to start there. It has 8 pins but the board only has 6, and the 6 on the board aren't marked as to what they are.

I'm bidding on a couple of One's on ebay and will probably fix that way.

I'd love for there to be a louis rossmann here in the UK to sort this out, but it doesn't seem feasible. I have contacted another couple of placed but no-one is interested due to the closed nature of this.

Oh, I bought another power supple and 19V ripcord supply, neither of those have made any difference.

At first post You described that there was problem with power supply connection, maybe You caused a little voltage peak that blow up some fuse on power distribution circuit? (something in this mpc has to convert 19v to 5v, 3.3v 1.8v and maybe more), grab a multimeter with fine probe tips and check every smd component marked with "F"

3.3v SOM will be for the System On Module. This is essentially a plugin card that is the computer of the system. If you look at the thread on upgrading RAM its the small black PCB with gold fingers on the end.

Also it looks like 1.25v isn't coming up.

A couple of things to try:

1. Physically unplug power cord from the unit and remove the coin battery. Leave it out and unplugged for around 10 minutes. Thenpower up the unit, first without the coin battery and then with the coin battery in.

2. If this doesn't work, locate the SOM, (black PCB) Remove it from the main PCB, clean with alcohol or contact cleaner and reinsert. Power up unit.

You said in a previous reply to ultros soldered joints tested ok . But you need to try and follow the trace on the pcb and test at the next solder pad . Because those solder pads have a tendency to lift off the board therefore disconnecting from the rest of the circuit. It happened to me with the main button on my Mpc one. I contacted Akai uk, the twats were useless and wouldn’t help me. I managed to fix mine myself.

Hello I have the same problem the 3 led was on but no boot i have nothing in the uart port and nothing to the usb port too i have control the voltage if everithing seems good the som was powered by 5 v i try all the button mode when I try to go in update mode the pad don t have light but if i try normal power on the rgb work the button test light work too all the light on it seem the radxa was dead but too expensive the carrier board and not find a new radxa board for test have you some issue thanks if you can help me
