Whose idea was it at Akai to produce an interface with a dropdown which is:

a) non searchable
b) not 'fast tracked by key presses and
c) not readable cutting off characters when displayed in the interface

It really makes me wonder who was in charge of UX there.

Bad Job.

Yeah, and the preset dropdown in the VST versions of the AIR plugins is even worse. It frequently loses keyboard focus, which is always frustrating.

I agree with the critizisms here, but have you ever tried working a KORG KRONOS "flagship" workstation? I thought I would never find a workstation with a better UX than my old Fantom G6/7, but here it is! MPCs are so much better when it comes to workflow and UX.

I agree, but you can press the "sounds" butten and select the plugin and patch from there.

Yes you can select yet another menu, which STILL is not searchable, but whats the point ?
As soon as you have that open, closing it glitches with repaint issues.
The MPC sound is amazing, but the software badly lets it down, i mean really badly.

I don't understand your issues. The MPC KEYs have much better usability than my Fantom G or Korg M3.
You can search everything that's a file in the browser and create keygroups or sample edit it in fast and easy.
The new engines are not searchable, but the patch names are fntasy names anyway. They don't follow a system. Patches you like can be made favorites, so you have a shortcut to them. Would be nice to have categories though. At least they are ordered by plugin.
My KEY 61 3.5 is still the best Workstation I ever owned. I hope they improve the OS, but that's a given I think, since it is still a beta. I hope they make the different time signatures working next. Roland's new Fantom had 4:4 for ages too. Maybe the coders have problems with Music Theory?
