'Cut/Discard' Quirkiness 2000 Classic

On some occasions, after adjusting start/end points of a sample, the cut/discard function will only remove part of what's outside those points. Repeating the function again, nothing further happens. My start/end points remain intact, but there's still dead space on either side. It doesn't happen every time, so I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing. Not the end of the world, but every kilobyte matters in floppy land lol. Thoughts?

Are you using 1.72?

Yes, 1.72!

I am not using the 2000 classic so much in the moment but can't remember having these kind of issues.
