"English and the Southern Hemisphere countries do share very similar humour / laid back attitudes"

yeah laid back is the way to go i reckon... :D

On Soundforge...

1. Get some vinyl and find some nice samples.
2. Find a one or two bar loop and chop it so that it loops perfectly. You can count in your head and listen to get a nice loop.
3. Choose a BPM for your song.
4. Timestretch the sample to fit the song.. To calculate the timestretch use this formula.

BPM = (no bars * timesig * 60)/Time(secs) or
Time(secs) = (no bars * timesig * 60) /BPM

So for example...you want to make a 90 BPM song in a 4/4 timesignature. You know your vinyl sample is 2 bars in length. You need to know how much to timestretch your vinyl sample to make it 90bpm.

Time(secs) = (2 * 4 * 60)/90 = 5.333 sec

Open the timestretch settings and enter 5.333 sec as the new length for the sample. Now you should have a perfect loop at your required BPM.

5. Tools-> Auto Region
6. Tools -> Extract Region
7. Now you have a chopped up sample that fits your BPM exactly.
8. Experiment and try different things. For example...pitching up 1 octave will make the samples play back in 1 bar instead of 2.

It seems like a lot of work to do it but its actually pretty fast. Once you do it a few times its really easy...

Enjoy the triton...its a really good instrument. Check out the time slice function in the sampling section. Use that and the arppegiator and you can create some cool beats and breaks.

Fab mate, really really appreciate the advice.

I have just got up real early to practice on the Triton shortly followed by soundforge....... I am really keen to try out this time streatch theory. Hopefully I shouldn't have too many problems :)

Thanks again, Nate! :D

By sumedho Sat Feb 12, 2005 3:32 pm
nah its the same metronome....probably just sounds different because of the audio compression and recorded through crappy mikes on the video camera.....or they make different mpc1000's in japan? I dunno...i bought mine in japan so maybe
