So what does the 3.0 read?
how does it create a sequence with the same program on multiple tracks?

Will it read All programs and sounds? > .APS files
(I assume the new line has some type of ''save all session'' files ?

To what degree can 3.0 read .pmg files?
(how accurately does it translates the basics (pitch, filter, adsr etc
any additional info?
(like the more recently added pitch envelope and mod matrix)

How does it translate multiple time signatures from a 4k seq?

Thx!

Why not try it yourself and let everybody know how it works?

Pretty sure 2.0 couldn't load any of the files you mentioned, only AKP programs. I'm not sure why it would have magically expanded with 3.0, considering it completely changed the structure of how the MPC has worked since 1988. If anything, they've been going backwards as opposed to forwards with compatibility options heh.

Would I be here asking if I coud try it .. ? :hmmm:

Thanks for playing ..

Im not here often, I dont follow the updates .. I dont have Nuakais

I only reach out as this is a MPC resource .. should I have tried reddit :hmmm:

.. if you cant help the topic .. just stick to your cardio aerobic workout videos; you know the ones you like; with no jumping and no squats...

I would assume the new line has .aps of some sorts, as did the 2k and above ..
so a reasonable inquiry

Hey bro, hate to be the bearer of bad news but 4k file compatibility with the newer MPCs has been a "challenge" to say the least.

The new stuff doesn't read all the file types and the some it does read have some issue most of the time. I spent a good deal of time working with my 4k and Live II side by side attempting to recreate and save old projects in a newer format.

I have had some success, but certain mix, pan, and program settings can be lost/mixed up. And the situation isn't getting better with 3.xx. I still working with 2.15.1 to at least keep some type of program organization.

Multi are gone, you will have to load each sequence one by one and if you have any other quirks in your existing MIDI, mix or Program settings, get ready to recreate those as well. It was an interesting process seeing what works and what doesn't but it's not impossible.

Peace.

Lots of parameters are lost when brining 4k files to mpc x v3.
I recreate those params if possible.

Thank you for the information!

Wonder if there are there any 3rd party workarounds?
Software samplers that read Akai 4k/Z programs that can be used as mediators to the Nuakai line?
NI Kontakt 8 can read Z/4k IIRC

IIUC the Akai software can read old MPC sequences or .ALL files ,yet the multi does not translate; correct?

Now from a quick research

Chicken key translator includes the Renascence in their formats so perhaps the Akai software & OS 2.0 can be used to aid the transition. :?: .. if anyone with any experiences from the ChikenKeys?

https://www.extranslator.com/
this one reads and exports Z & 4k files but I've yet to read upon it

https://www.fmjsoft.com/awavestudio.html#main
Awave Studio reads/ can recognize formats from instruments by Akai, Korg, Yamaha, Roland, Ensoniq, Creamware, Kurzweil, Native instruments and many others.

Dunno, I would have thought it be highly beneficial for the Nu mark/Akai/InMusic cooperation to have reasonably good/great compatibility for the very large Akai heritage of libraries and the older MPC users base.
From reading MPC's files to the vast Akai S sampler history / huge mass amount of sample content / spanning over 3 decades,
this compatibility a big asset if you ask me.

Akai you listening :hdmi:

You are not wrong. It would be beneficial to us users.

But two points... The 4k was nowhere near as prevalent as let's say the 2000/XL and the like. And the Nukai new generation stuff doesn't even have a place for a lot of the Z-series/4k settings to even land. They either changed the way those settings work OR they completely omitted it.

As much as us 4k users would love to have full compatibility, I don't see it happening any time soon.

I have a 4k, x and key61 (used to have 2kxl and still have several hundred files left over to experiment with).

I’ve imported 2kxl + 4k akp’s into 2.15 and only basic things translate over. Sequence, tracks, pad assignments, etc.

3.4 seems to only do the basics but the way it handle, like Mkie Boogie said above “things don’t land” because they are included, don’t translate, aren’t there anymore feels weird.

In no way, shape, form or plastic surgery closeness is there a 1:1 translation.

Thanks for the confirmation

I was under the impression that 2.0 added multimode at some point / or maybe it was just talked about.
Also IIRC the Renascence and co (like NI machine) read envelopes and filter setting to some extent.. But as echoed here its was a bit of a hit-and-miss.

As for as NuAkai being comparable for the older Akai's heritage.
Assuming the new line will run updated CPUs: more plugins and wistfully some ''oversampling'' 24/96k etc.
The classic Akai's sampler structure is
4x layers, 3x envelopes 2x LFOs + filters and FX,
A stronger CPU might be able to apply the S6/5000 Assignable Program Modulation and the Z/MPC4k Modulation matrix to all layers.
As 3.0 added pitch envelope and mod matrix.

Considering how talented the Air groups is and size of In Music in the industry I would think mirroring compatibility with their back history could be done through a lightweight programmer.

Just a pitch for a highly viable resources as in ''sample shareholding'' / adding value to their instrument line and NuAkais future marketing. This has IMO way greater value vs just another new pluging :smoker:

The thing is, that's not 'Nukai' history. That is Akai Professional Japan history, which no longer exists.

InMusic bought Numark who owned the name Akai at the time. Neither one has any clue about their history aside from the shit they pull from wikipedia to try and hype up their current products heh. No one at this Akai had anything to do with the 4000, the 2000, etc, aside from trying to sell off whatever inventory they had left over when they initially bought the company. Remember the very last run of blue MPC2Ks and 4Ks? That was Numark trying to make a quick buck and clearing out whatever was left in inventory when they took over.

you sure they just bought the name and not intellectual property belonging to Akai ?

I’ve imported a lot of projects from the 4k, you definitely need to have a notepad out and go between the two machines a bit. But the most consistent thing I’ve noticed is every single project I’ve brought over from the old machine crashes from time to time in the new one. Saving the project after working on it fails and a temp project is created. I’ve had that with all my old work from the 4K
By glide Tue Aug 05, 2025 9:31 am
@sparky That's super useful info!

Whats a temp project (assuming it is what the name implies) is everything Ok after you load from the temp project.
And what type of files are you loading? and what files are effected by the crash

Do the NuKais adapt 96khz files to 44.1khz?
Will it read 4k all project files?
All programs and sounds?
All sequences and Songs?
.. or just singel program and sequences
