Is my 1000 fried?

So I do have a blue unit. I do have JJOS (however I don't think this pertains to the OS, more so the hardware, hence posting here). And I did look for one with upgraded pads, max RAM, switches replaced, etc...so I think the unit might just be bunk at this point.

Because if OS, RAM, pads & switches have been upgraded...I would think it's PCB-related (being 2 decades old). And wouldn't be surprised if previous owner did shitty solder work when they worked on the internals? I dunno, I haven't opened it up.

- F2 button won't function properly: if I try to access a menu/function tied to it, pressing the button flashes that menu/function on the screen for a few milliseconds and reverts back to the sequence record page. In a few menus I can use it to bring up certain things. I think this is because the F2 button is shorting out (or PCB) and re-triggering/acting as a "cancel" button in menus/functions where available

- Pressing the F2 button very hard/rapidly also triggers the "Overdub" button, leading me to think the board itself might be bad.

- Pad bank "A" button starts sequences. Pad bank "B" buttons stops sequences. At first I thought this was just a weird JJOS function (setting other buttons as transport controls) but I don't think that's the case. Like, that's just gotta be a bad connection, yeah?

- Pressing pad bank buttons causes other buttons on the MPC to flash briefly, stay dimly lit. Like everything is tied together, some sort of circuit bleed-through i.e. triggering one thing on the circuit triggers other things. I bought it off of eBay sometime last year, seller said they replaced tact switches & whatnot, kinda leads me to believe some things.

- MIDI issues, particularly stuck notes, triggered ghost notes i.e. I keep getting this problem where I'm playing through sequences and at some point a note, maybe not even in the sequence, will just trigger on one of my synths and infinitely drone on. Or sometimes it kills the synth entirely and I have to turn it off & on again to get it receiving MIDI again. I've even gone into the MPC's MIDI settings and turned a lot of that crap off, unplugged other external MIDI devices, and tested it with less MIDI-intensive sequences to make sure there wasn't any sort of weird MIDI data coming in/going through/out. Tbh, this I could see being related to JJOS more than the hardware itself, but at this point, who knows.

Honestly...not really looking to repair it at this point if something is fried. From what I understand, if this is hardware related, it sounds like it would be the PCB boards. And I know I can get those but I'd rather upgrade to a newer MPC for the studio and keep this thing next to the couch.

All fixable - the pad upgrade from MPCstuff will fix that issue - you need the full sensor sheet & the all in one pad sheet too if you have the OG blue model with individual pads & sensors, although I'd recommend taking a look inside to double check as the 1K has a complicated history!

As for the tact switches - you can get a bag full of 100 for about $5 / $10 if you shop around on ebay - you'll always have spares!
I'd recommend getting a handy electrician to do the solder work if you don't have the tools & experience.

It already has the pad upgrade, the tact switches were also replaced. I mentioned that in my first post.

You were saying it was more of an 'if' than a 'had' from what I can see..?

You gotta get inside it for sure, luckily it's easy with the 1K.
The F buttons sound like they just need new tact switches - the bank buttons more likely shitty soldering / damaged board - still fixable so I wouldn't write it off!

you'll need to inspect all the soldering on the tact switches first... it's possible that there is a short or bridge which is causing your buttons to trigger a different signal than intended that is sent to the CPU.
