All they had to do was add a phone battery; and make it standalone, add power over usb c, then add a colour screen, and that would be landslide victory of a seller.

Amen amen amen. OG MPC studios were the best. I still use mine every day

I would use the MPC studio tbh if it had CV outputs

I would actually love for Akai to do a performance like sampler instead of a MPC format..

Similar to Octatrack, just polyphonic, fixed poly and selected FX would be fine, no need for tons of FX & tracks just focus on crisp punchy sound .. Geez Akai you could almost clone the Octa ideology .. just 24/96 hi grade dynamic sound .. add some Moog mojo (ala SP16) and it be amazing product... The Okta is still rocking it 10 years after release ..

Thanks in advance for any info

The next iteration of the MPC series production center should be revealed by the fourth week of September, which I assume will either be in stores by then, to be sold immediately, or just the revealing announcement with a future release date after NAMM. But i think they want to get a jump on the Xmas shopping which is the best sales period for consumers.

Actually the MPC could be a great performance like sampler if they would take care of that.
It has all a performance like sampler needs, in terms of hardware and specs.
But apparently they prefer to attract a different kind of customers.

They may have all the features ... but it's not that simple ... thats why I put emphasizes on audio quality and dynamics ..

Take for example two great Akai real-time FX:
The beat repeater and the granulator,
the granulator sounds nothing like MI clouds which is what it's based on ..its harsh and the beat repeater on the fastest repeats reminds me of Rolands''scatter on the ''original'' Aria TB3 on its fastest rolls (very harsh sounding) its unpleasant sounding if you ask me

Same If you listen FX scene cross-fades on the Force vs Okta the dynamic feel is night and day ..

Sometimes I think that the same guy that brought us the MPC3k circuity in the Ren found out a way to compress dynamic resolution to give the CPU more power .. The MPC seams to be getting 3x more CPU and features vs the competition running on similar CPUs and at the same time is less dynamic ...
maybe its just overuse of compression and limiting ? dunno dont want to start a fire ... they sound good but yet a bit flat

if they do a performance unit (as in live performance PA) the focus should be sounds & dynamics .. Right now to my ears at least the Okta is much more lively and makes the Force sound very flat and streamlined, ithe Akais sounds like PC-soft where ... hence the analog mojo take ... its amazing what analog harmonics can do to a statick sample ..

No, I don't think it's a problem of overcompressions or overlimiting.
I just think that they built MPC around a daw like idea, so all fx and features are "optimised" for that.
If you want to make a performance like sampler, you have to focus on something else, as you said, better dynamics, real time fx, like slicers and beat repeaters that you can tweak on the fly without artifacts and so on.
For example, XY page could be a great tool for performances but it's just made badly and left there without care.
The fx arsenal, especially AIR one, is pretty good but it's intended for daw processing. Granulator is not the best.
There are many tricks they could implement without much work on sequencers, mod matrix sources and destinations and so on. They just don't care to do it because people buy MPC to make HIPHOP, drum machine, bass lines, some easy sample, a touch of synths and here you go.
I would put more sample mangling on this MPC, it has cpu and ram to make it good.
You load your own samples, you mangle them in all possible ways, that would be a perfect MPC for that.
I do this but I have to admit that it is very limited, for the time being.

100% ..

I will say though that the Push3 caring a direct replica of the Abelton on a raspberry (?) like system sounds really good,, it has a crisp and clear sound & IMO one of the best sounding today s modern samplers; so its not like its impossible for ''software dithered'' samplers on per-assembled boards to sound great.. the DA AD stages may play a more important part vs sampler built by design, and from the few vids Ive compared I ''feel'' (this is of corse greatly dependat on material and user) that the X has more clarity compared to the ONE ...

but a good example of where ''design over convertors'' is applicable in our todays is the EP133 its a + 300$ sampler and has great fidelity, eve something like the ''DE
LOOPA project'' has great fidelity and these units are hardly using top D/A conversion..

One of the things that may be affecting the cross-fading on the Force vs OT sounding so different is the resolution (?) its only 1-127 increments (MIDI standard) on the Akai ? dunno, yet this is apparently a whole lot lower than the scenes slider on the OT.

I dunno but everything you said specially about installing the mod-matrix into a step sequencer (that can do all the fancy tricks) would really excel the MPC which already has the most advanced choping and layering in the biz: to have these layers /round/robins / motion loops and tail loops all animated via advanced step sequencing + modmatrix parallel in a MPC pattern would be bananas!

I share your worries about Akai being manly market and sales driven,
but 3.0 gives me hope, you have to be very passionate to introduce a mod matrix with new sources.
If it was all about hi-hop and sales they would have just stuck with simple sampling format and a looper/clip launching .. but they took it way deeper and that is a indication of passion for sound and design, ..

I have hi hopes ... AI could really push code and hence product R&D... whatever you thought the next gen og groove boxes would be .. its going to be better due to AI assistance.
