USE university or public library vinyl/cds

this is an excellent way to get free music.

hey, i'm a student at George mason university, and i just stumbled across something beautiful.

recently picked up serato scratch live (lets you scratch digital sounds via usb, indistinguishable from vinyl--and you can scratch vinyl too, so as to not offend the purists) and a turntable. adding that to my mpc1k and computer recording setup i have a pretty powerful dormroom studio. i already have 10000 mp3s, but i'm always looking out for more.

walking into my university library, i found an ENORMOUS room full of cds - classical, ethnic, contemporary - an entire sample library of soemwhat dated music. it's all gold, too - no cd you take out is useless.

i suggest scoping out any available library you have. this has drastically improved my means. hopefully it will assist someone else, as well.

Does your School have a radio station? If so, try to get in there too. My school station had 40,000 vinyl's in this storage room...... too bad I wasn't making beats then, only DJing..... but I did come up on some dope old hip hop records.

My local public library has a great music section. If I hear some classic song on the radio & remember that I always wanted that, I can usually find it there. They charge for borrowing cds but it costs less than downloading the single song from the UK iTunes store, plus I get to check out some more cuts from that artist.

yeah we have a radio station as well, but i haven't checked out their vinyl. good call, man.

word, you'll probably have to go up there and try get in as a DJ at the station to get access to the records. It's really easy and probably will only take up a about 2 hours of your time a week.....

I say this because they probably won't let you just walk in off the street and have access to their records.

the libs here stop carring vinyl a long time ago, they use CDs but i dont

and Listen or Sample Sounds Why NOT ................And I Have MAD Vinyl already but I see the utility in this................
Plus If U Get A Scratchy Piece of Vinyl (non-lite but very noise filled)
U have an option to find the CD or another vinyl copy for free...............
