Paradigm X wrote:Absolutely. Between the two theres an ultimate JJOS04 or something. Like for example i have no idea why he removed tails from 02. Or the cool velocity offset from the main page in os1. Amazing for acid as you can vary the accents live... But hes not like the modern programmers, all online and looking for feedback, he kind of lives in his own world it seems.
I got my 1k after 03 was released so jumped straight into 3 so havent got much experience with that. Every time i try it it always feels like loads is missing. But i use MIDI all the time and everyone says 02 is far better for that. If the projects were compatible with both it woudnt be so bad but you need to kind of commit to one.

Again, I really dont want to criticise in any way, what hes done with what would otherwise be pretty obsolete technology is amazing. its just like you say frustrating when with a few tweaks we could have perfection...
Cheers

From my understanding, source code of OS(2)XL isn't entirely available (or editable bc of old tech or something) and is already using all the memory, so besides the few bug fixes he had to do OS3 to do new things at some point.

Regarding the dev process, yea he's really doing it from his bubble but the language barrier is pretty steep. Very few Japanese understand english, especially when it comes to technical stuff. I mean, look at the manual you get a good idea about the struggle

But it doesn't take away one bit of his legendary "Japanese Jenius". Thought, It'd be great if someone fluent in both english and japanese could assist him in his spare time so the community can get in touch with him. Maybe with a Q&A to start with.

JJOS different versions have always been a bit frustrating, split between OS3 better sampling capabilities and OS(2)XL better MIDI management, and random features very few people really use.

Imo the best way to go forward would be to do a poll so the community can vote for which features are more important. For instance a list of say 10 or 20 main features with everyone in this forum having ability to vote for 3 or 5. Let the poll run for a few months, push notifications and see what comes up. Then maybe a little back and forth with JJ for discussing some details, to do the ultimate JJOS version for an extra fee.

Would love to see that.[/quote]

I've been trying it, there's some good ideas. The new chord mode and 2-bar loop edit mode are interesting. But I wonder what is JJ trying to achieve with this, I haven't seen anywhere some kind of statement or explanation regarding the purpose of this Light version.

If you check the JJOS Comparison Chart, there's quite a few features removed:

Does anyone have a way to reach him and ask a few questions?
