Completely agree, calling it 'Octatrack Mk3' makes 100% more sense than 'Tonverk'. Never noticed the lack of crossfader, odd omission. Given MPC Software 3.5 beta has a crossfader section in QLINK EDIT, I'm kind of hoping we see a crossfader in the Live Mk3. But this could just be a glitch from them porting over the Force related stuff.

it does have two inputs only, doubt they will be stereo because of their labeling - A & B.
It seem that it's more close to a DT2 rather than OT - at least, apart of multiple outputs, it can't do anything DT2 wouldn't do with a right FW upgrade imho.

As for the MPC3 crossfader - there is a lot of references of it in the configs but can't remember from the top of my head the , also the account with all my images been nuked so I don't have any reference atm.

if you're doing anything more than a strict boombap, I would say yes. It's a workflow that requires a slightly different mindset as you can't see automation lanes etc. but it's very nice for experimenting, you can copy a whole pattern into memory, do whatever you want to do in current one, (filter it, decimate it) or whatever, and then with a push of a one button restore it to the original. I was running elektrons in parallel to mpc for a copule of years and nowadays i'm using them much more than actual mpc. You can get cheap DT1 for under 300 bucks to try it out. If you don't like it, just resell it. I was just about to pull the trigger on the force / octatrack (DT2 and DN here) but I thought I'll wait for that MPC thingy and here I am seriously wondering if I should pull the trigger on Toneverk  Good news is that the OT mkI will seriously go down in price as well.
EDIT:
check out old JonMakesBeats videos on Octatrack - those beats are straight fire :)

Lol You guys are Hilarious. You guys really think that InMusic cares about Old Customers  Its a Business at the end of the day. They're Target audience are New Generational Beatmakers and Producers, who have Adapted to making Music VISUALLY.

That's like gettin mad an Automobile Manufacturer for adding Power Windows and Touchscreen Radios in their Cars! "Wahhhh I like Rolling up my WIndows Manually and turning Knobs on my Radio! Messin Up My Open Window Workflow!"

Back to reality,,,tho... We're not forced to use the Arranger. I can still use Song Mode on my MPC. Hell...I can even Down Grade to 2.72 on my MPC to go back in time. Please Lemme know of another Standalone Drum Machine Sampler that can Rival the MPC. What...Maschine + ?

At the End of the Day...everyone who's complaining about Progress will Purchase the New MPC eventually. Trust me...I USE to be a Naysayer too lol

“Back to reality,,,tho... We're not forced to use the Arranger. I can still use Song Mode on my MPC”

But wasn’t the arranger view the reason they had to destroy programs? Programs are key part of the mpc workflow

To your analogy it would be like removing brakes just to have automatic windows.

And yes, Akai is catering to a new generation of beat makers which is exactly the problem. Constantly chasing new customers is how you lose sight of what made you great. Great companies force customers to them not the other way around. There’s nothing stopping them from evolving the mpc without sacrificing the core fundamentals of what makes an mpc an mpc.

The arranger view is trash anyways. More of a gimmick to sell units than an actual smart evolution of a product

Arranger view on the X is ok. I think it will work better in controller mode.. I like the new direction been using MPC's since early 90's.. if I want the OG feel ill pull out my 3000 or 2000 classic...

I mostly agree with you.. I think the arranger is mostly eye candy, I almost never use it.. but programs are not broken, the most important functions of them are still available. You just have to mostly create a new program for every track.. but big deal.. I don't think it is nearly as big a deal as many make it seem. It does make it way less complicated and I'm pretty used to it by now.

You may have a Bum MPC lol ...Bcz my MPC still has Programs. And they're a lil bit more powerful. All Akai did was change the name from "Program Edit to Track Edit". Still there lol
A good chunk of users actually like Arranger View. I'm still more comfortable in Song Mode than Arranger tho.

There are workarounds for using the programs on multiple tracks. I should make a video showing all the different workflows along with their pros & cons. It always seems way more complicated via text.

The clip-matrix on the Force makes using the arranger way better. Editing notes in the grid & list editor still needs to be improved.

They are still called programs though. That is just that function they changed to track edit.

Been on mpc for 17 years

It’s a convoluted minimalist mess, and when I see MPC noobs complaining about how hard it is to learn the MPC way (3.X or otherwise), Elektron steps in and says “hahahah - you think MPC is hard? Hold my beer”. But they’re still magnificent.
