stoopid "tracks" question on the xl....

say i wanna make a drum track. hi's on trak 1
kiks trak 2
snare trak 3
fig 1.1 toms trak4
percusion tak5
etc. trak 6,7,8....

this could, by far, be the dumbest question ever within this forum, and even outside it. but nevertheless, instead of doing it like figure 1.1,
could i possibly just start recording on track 1 over a 16 bar loop, do my thing with all the sounds from figure 1.1, therefore creating my drumtak.
then after the recording is done and i gots my stuff where i want it, all on trak 1, mind you, is there ANY way i could then disect the trak, and specify a certain sound to a particular trak? ultimately creating 6,7, or 8 individual traks? a possible reason for me wanting to do this is because i feel that i have a more free feeling creativity, doing it all of the top a my dome.. as opposed to doin hi's first then somethin else then somethin else, etc...
i feel like i cant be a open like that. i know i could just do it all on trak 1 and just keep it on one trak, right? but then i want to adjust each individual sound, u know? like thru the 8 outs. so ......well then....

You can easily put all your stuff on the same track, that's not a problem.

If you wanna be able to mute on the fly you need to seperate tracks.

If you wanna mix the volumes of each instrument they need to be on seperate tracks.

If you wanna assign 8 outs they need to be on seperate tracks.

There are MANY what if here so I aint gonna go there.

Maybe you are thinking for simplicity to just have one big track.

After it's all over though you really should seperate them into diff tracks so you can be able to use the many functions in the MPC that you will def need to use.

How to seperate instruments from that one big tracks into several?
You can use EDIT and/or COPY.

One example, copy trk1 to trk2.
Delete all instruments except kick.
Now trk2 is a kick trk.
So forth and so on.
Remember to NAME your tracks cause good
organization skills help, trust me, don't rush, organize as you go.

I just named a few that's all. After years I have found workarounds for everything I want to do. If one simple function can't do it, then you'll have to combine funtions and/or effects and/or samples. That's the workaround bible right there.. Figure out what each peice of your gear CAN and CANNOT do, combine functions/effects/processes to get what you want.
Sometimes you have to go OUTSIDE of one peice of gear, process in another, import back to the first peice of gear and possibly combine it with something else. That train of though can ride with data or audio.
You WILL get derailed several times during the experimental stages though but that's the learning process AND beauty of it all. You get better with time. So, NEVER let yourself think there is no way to do something, just find a solution rather than beating yourself up with a problem ya dig.

THAT is not in the manual, that's not basic, that's advanced stuff.

EDIT and COPY and copy is in the manual.
EDIT is on the main menu when you turn on your 2kxl.

I remember trying to figure out how to do that..... It is long and tedious especially if you have, like your example stated, 8+ tracks. But I think the advice lamp gave is perfect. just keep copying and deleting

haha, dont worry lamp, I just figured out how to do that within the last few months....so its pretty new to me..... you prolly been knowin how to do that for so long that you forgot about it haha
