What is 'next gen' in your opinion? For me it would have to be more than just more RAM, it would need to be a re-thinking alongside obvious stuff like a new mainboard/CPU. For example, MPE pads, more hands on control options, improvements in audio I/O including ability to support multiple interfaces, modding options (e.g. clip on keyboard, extra I/O, ram upgrade), and whatever crazy, out of the box thinking they can come up with.

I reckon true 'next' gen' will involve the simultaneous release of two or more units, like they did with Live & X and the Studio & Ren

Could be wrong though, I often am with these hardware releases! But gut tells me it's just incremental, no doubt with some features designed for MPC3

I think it's more about being the one to predict the next hardware drop than the actual upgrades

I'm looking forward to Akai releasing the details on this MPC Live 3. I want to know what it can do and what features it has. I have a MPC Key 61, but I'll sell my 404 mk2 and use the Live 3 as my portable unit if it's worthwhile. Even at the $1700 price tag, if it's dope it's worth it. Time will tell what they've thrown into this mix with this thing, but I'm definitely excited to hear more about it!

I just hope it is the same size as the live 2 because I sold my live 2 but still have my analog cases hard case for it just sitting here.. this seems almost perfect to put that bad boy back into use!!

Yep, the circle of life. I have seen people praising MPC 1000 and 2500 for its warmth and analog sound.

In 15-20 years from now people will be remembering the Live as the machine with that gritty, urban, old school drill / trap vintage sound or some buzzword like that

they most likely will move from outdated ROCK2 to last gen 64bit ROCK5 which is slowly on its way out as Rockchip is already on their new, 6th gen RK65xx which support up to 32GB of ram. 8-16gb ram versions of R5 are cheap af nowadays so most likely that's the scenario. I/O side of things is up to inmusic though, I wouldn't count on drastic changes as retooling cost a fortune so they will use current chasis and stuff with minor changes only so the carrier board as well as I/O board must have similiar footprint. If you ask me - when it comes to I/O, they should implement usb audio support with switchable 44/48k samplerate to facilitate all range of devices on the market today, get rid of those stupid phono inputs and replace them with secondary set of line inputs - who tf connect turntable directly without any mixer anyway? You really don't need anything more than that.

I've seen an video where Logic showed his MPC 2000xl and claimed it is better because it is analog, 21th century - century of wisdom and so much bu****it going in circles

I’ve seen/read a lot of this lately. Man I am old because I remember all the bitchibg and complaining about the sound of those. Should have held onto my 1000 and 5000 could have made a fortune selling to these modern hipsters looking for that old time aesthetic

Errr… I do. And I’d wager a metric shit ton of users do as well. I literally only own a turntable to sample from - not to sit around and listen to albums. I’m too on-the-go for that sort of inconvenience.

Nonsense buzz word. I've heard the something. Like what does analog even means to them & how is the new MPC audio is designed differently? Someone said its analog sound makes it more organic or whatever hell they were yapping about.

I only used a DJ mixer for the audio grounding. Been switched to turntable amp which then goes to my sampler. Unless you're DJing or scratchin' no mixer is needed.
