Step sequencer, never liked it anyway.

Even if you don’t like it. Now when you fingerdrum your beat it will still populate the step sequencer and you don’t have to fiddle with the touchscreen when editing a note but you can just select the step via the step sequencer. I think that’s pretty dope.

I was right

My opinion on the new MPC Live III:

I think I was right to stop supporting the Force firmware for “Hakai,” because the new MPC already has everything—and more.
I don’t see Akai releasing a Force 2 anytime soon, especially since the Live III now includes the “Matrix + Clips.”

Akai has really outdone themselves with both the hardware and the software. My only hope is that the bugs stay under control, because I can easily see this unit selling like hotcakes.

Here are the things I like most:
• Being able to switch from 16 pads to 64 pads is a huge improvement.
• The new parametric EQ looks great.
• I’m curious how many of the new features will actually make it to the current generation of MPCs, and what the limitations will be.

A big bonus is the 24-channel USB-C audio interface..!! Finally, you can stream everything in real time straight to your PC. I’ve been doing this with two RME Fireface units, but that won’t be necessary anymore. You can even sample directly from your phone..!! And stem separation now uses the desktop algorithm (sweet..!!). The big question: will this also be enabled for the current generation?

I don’t use the step sequencer, so I can’t really comment on that.

All in all, a nice and powerful new unit has joined the MPC family but I’m going to pass on the MPC Live III, because the Live series has never really been my thing. But when the X2 drops, I’ll be there day one..!! Hopefully they’ll launch it with the “SE” color scheme right off the bat—no need to milk the X2 for a few years and only then release an X2 SE.

In short: Akai really nailed it with the Live III..!!

I hope we get a locked 8x16 grid for the drum sequencer.
If not i buy an oxy

Luckily none of these new features mean anything to me or give me the GAS, cause I def can't be affording this right now. Just hope the og models get a firmware update out of this endless beta bs

TBH i'm only care about new mpc because that means the price of og mpc x will go down

2 pending topics for me:

1) Finish material, hope is not the same sticky as the live 2.
2) Plugin loading time: live and Key37 need a lot of time to load some piano plugins… hopefully this is quicker

This obviously takes advantage of the new CPU and would be prohibitively slow on the current one.

I wonder about the parametric equalizer with realtime spectral graph - it could also be too heavy on the current CPU... I hope it isn't.

I love the specs of the new Live III! I just hope all this new fan-cy stuff doesn't add up to the need for active cooling... (there was a giant fan on the leaked FCC photos)

I would love to at least be able to see the manual in order to see more in depth of the live 3 capabilities

1. Case is no longer soft - it's hard. No more worries about it going sticky and very easy to clean.

2. Plugin loading time is instant, as is preset loading time. Sample large plugins (like Studio Strings, etc) have a slight pause but - almost instant as well.

At least my unit does.

Regarding time signatures, here's an excerpt from the new Firmware 3.6 (Gen1) update documentation (meaning the update for all prior existing MPC units):

"Project Time Signature Support

You can now change the time signature of your MPC project to suit your creative needs. Changing the project time signature updates all sequences to use the new setting. Sequences will retain their length in bars. If Clip workflow is enabled, clips will retain their length in pulses.

Project Time signatures can be changed in Main Mode. You can also set the default time signature in the Project Defaults section of the Preferences."
