Coming from a Key37 I see that Live3 has no Automation On/Off - Read/Write switch button.

I was so surprised, and this is the same as live 2 I guess.

What a pitty, I also could not find any workaround about shortcuts, just using the screen… uff

Yeah, that's wack, but isn't there a tab for it in the pull-down screen?

Yes there is.
But I always avoid the use of the touchscreen when possible, the automation on / off button was really cool to me. I tried to use the q-link Pad grid, but is not working with this thing. Just of the activation of the plugis or something similiar…

If anyone have a workaround…

A great workaround for me once I made peace with the fact that the touchscreen wasn't going anywhere, was to get used to the touchscreen by using it as much as I could, until I didn't even think about it. I'd do something over & over, like turing on Write Rec from the pull down menu.

If that not possible hopefully there's an option like on the Force where you set automation to be recorded with you press rec+play? I don't use that & don't remember if it rec everything or only Rec Armed tracks.

I never try this, but see if you can MIDI Learn Write rec to a macro knob/button.

Anyway it apparently allowed him to begin the downgrade but after an hour he force powered down and bricked it.

I guess it’s semi bricked. He can bring it back to live if he knows the key combo to initiate the update mode.

I need to thank you, as I see that is possible to activate recording automation while recording/overdub. For anyone interested, you will need to keep pressing recording button to enable it.

This is fine and definitely solves my problem.

Again, thank you B-Wise! :worthy:

This is definitely a “take my money, please” thing for me — the mic and multi-jack inputs alone are huge, clip launching seems like it will fit even more my workflow. That said, I’ll wait for any issues to shake out — I had a first order Live I that ended up having a failed audio board out the gate. My Live II Retro has been great fro the last 2 years, but it did just now corrupt an elaborate project I’d built. Not sure what glitched there.

But seriously, loving the thought of the ribbon controller, better IO and lots of standalone tracks.. Not sure how I’d make the most of the MPCe pads, but I can see a lot of fun there.

It seems you’ve already figured it out, but I think it’s also easy to just go back to the main screen and tap the green icon in the top right…

I referred him to the manual describing how to do an update over usb. But it’s whack anyway especially since he writes something like „got the live3, don’t touch buggy first versions and I only want the new buttons and matrix/sequencer stuff but not the new SW so I downgraded“ Not even sure he even tried to use it or if he went straight from unboxing to downgrading. :WTF:

He’s a moron. 3.6 is optimized to run on the Live III - the 2.X firmware won’t run on it at all. Not without some finagling…

I believe that, in general, a device cannot have a firmware version installed that is older than the pre-installed version.

Not at the moment, would be nice if it could be though.
