Haven't integrated the Live 2 into my setup yet because I'm still working through old JJOS projects on my 1000, but some features I told myself I didn't give a shit about (speaker, battery) have made it great for laying in bed at night with while I work on "disposable projects" i.e. banging out ideas I'm not going to save because they're really just exercises in learning the machine.

I'll have to have some of these sessions the next 48 hours while I teach myself clips; kinda feeling like I need to simplify my drums anyway, maybe minimalize/group them better...so I'll the suggestions here and see what I like best. I typically group out (audio-wise) kick, clap/snare, hats, rhythm/percussion, so I should probably just carry this over audio workflow over to the way I sequence too and start using a 4 track/4 clip process in the box.

Literally the best way to learn any new gear like this IMHO is to do some covers of songs you reallly like. Not only do you not have to worry about writing new material, it forces you to learn the gear.

Just bought the pro pack and it deactivates everytime it switches off and needs internet connection to reactivate . It’s an Mpc one and nowhere near the router for Ethernet connection . Anyone else had this problem when disconnected from the internet?

There are MANY examples of activation issues posted throughout the years, specifically when dealing with requests every time the machine is turned on. I've talked to level-two service agents at In Music about it over the years and they cannot seem to figure it out. Some say it's a hardware issue, some say it has to do with the time/date clock not syncing correctly. My unit is so bad at this point, Akai offered a coupon for a discount on new hardware because they had no answers on why it was happening. I will say this, it was never an issue in the beginning, but as time went on, it got worse with each update. Now it's every single time, even when connected to the Internet. Here's the fun part - it's an issue with the VST versions as well. This points to server problems, account problems, or code vomit.

I was really hoping this would have been squashed by now. It's one thing to have the machine nag about activation when it comes to plugins, but it's an entirely different problem to have the basic functionality of the firmware tied to these errors.

Thanks for the reply, I’ve noticed it’s only the pro pack features that’s getting deactivated, the split stems feature remains activated. I also noticed that the same thing happened when I activated the latest trials . It didn’t do it on 3.5 though.

This is your MPC unable to query the network time servers. It's a routing issue. It's not visible to your mpc. It should set the clock using the network time but fall back to its stored date / time and rtc if the network time fails.

it's not inmusics end, they cant fix this for you. you have to set up your route to the internet properly. add your MPC to the demilitarized zone or learn how to set up a route to the network time servers for linux and your mpc (in your router) but SSH users beware.. it'll be visible to the outside if its added to the demilitarized zone. it's lazy practice.

Those of you/us who use our cellphones to activate stuff tend not to have this problem because android is linux and uses the same network time servers so it just goes through the network route retreives the date and time, sets it and you activate your crap and it magically stays going because the security token has a "window" of time that its authenticated for like a cookie for a web browser. probably some sorta SSL token, never looked into it too deeply didnt need to.

See, and this made sense to me after having worked with wireless control systems for so long. Unfortunately, this was part of the initial troubleshooting and it's still a problem. Lots more to say about the process.

Sometimes the MPC makes me want to batter it. lol. Literally kick the crap right out of it and be like "there! good, problem solved!" but once I chill out I'd realise what I'd done and feel guilty.

Am the only one that thinks it is criminal they got rid of clips and then brought it back behind a paywall? I don't care if it's improved, I think that is insane. I've had the thing since it came out. Am I missing a voucher or something?

To be fair, you can still run 2.X, which I do right now, Not that it makes things right though. What they could do is simply integrate the old clips in the drum track in 3.X. quantized launch, and latching sounds.

When I first got my ASR-10 in 1994 I replicated Too Short songs/beats while going thru the manual. THAT, by itself, taught me ALOT.

Can you do a trial for the clip launcher?
On my MPC One, clip launcher is greyed out, even though I am successfully connected via Ethernet.

No, there is no trial available.

No trial. You have to buy it, then register the serial on your InMusic account. Then it won’t be greyed out anymore. Should be able to download the pack and activate at that point.
