MPC Live III + NVMe SSD?

Hello, I just purchased a Live III and was wondering:

1. Can you install an NVMe in a 2.5 case and then into the Live III? I believe the manual says you can - " install an mSATA (mini-SATA) drive, but make sure you also purchase an adapter that enables it to fit into a typical 2.5” SATA interface."
2. Is there any data read/write speed benefit to installing an NVMe SSD vs 2.5-inch SATA III SSD?

I thought I read somewhere that the Live's "bus speed" restricts the maximum NVMe drive speed so there is no need to waste money on an NVMe SSD drive, but I am not technical enough to understand this stuff. Hoping someone can verify or explain. Thanks!

Almost certainly wasting your money

If you connect an NVMe SSD through a SATA interface, it won’t reach M.2/NVMe speeds because it will be limited to the SATA III bandwidth, so it’s not really worth it.

Hopefully someone will find out how to clone that internal NVME in the live 3 properly, then we might be able to upgrade the factory one to a larger one up to 4TB & skip the sata drive all together

i'm 100% sure, that you can replace internal nvme with the bigger one. If I had live 3, I'd do it myself.

I've used Disk Genius on PC to successfully clone the live 3 & XL NVME drives and replaced the factory NVME with a 2TB & 4TB NVME using Samsung 990 Pro drives for each..........

once you twist the quarter inch jack caps (Not XLR) off the back of the MPC and remove all screws from bottom and the back, the bottom plate slides right off. You can see where the NVME drive is. You will need to put it in a NVME case with a USB C connection along with the new drive you are upgrading to. Then get Disk Genius for PC only 9free version) & follow these steps.

1. plug both drives up.
2. Click Tools in the top menu
3. Click Clone Disk
4. Then choose Source Disk (Factory 128GB Live 3 or 256GB XL) drive
5. Then choose Target Disk (Bigger NVME)
6. Then choose copy valid sectors only
7. Then choose lock & execute
8. Then wait until its finished
9 Once its done the "complete" highlight blue and the progress bar will stop
10. Eject both drives
11. Close Disk Genius & reopen
12. Reconnect new drive
13. Then click on the "User" partition
14. Then click partition option from menu at the top
15. Then click extend partition
16. Then Click MPC User
17. Then Click "Ok"
18. it will extend the partition to the remaining open drive space on user partition (allow full access to remaining space)
19. Once its done eject the drive/s

Install back to MPC and secure all screws and twist all quarter inch jack caps back on

Is there any improvements with the disk streaming ? I'm looking to stream from disk large multisampled (round robins velocities)drumkits.

I am eager to hear if there are performance différences, especially regarding disk streaming when you work on the nvme.

I dont think that a good idea for the long run besides what are you gaining ssd drive is fast enough? I must be missing something

On my X i have external SSD drive booting up slower due to scanning drive other than that no..

That's good to know, thanks. I'd prefer having an internal SSD but prices are crazy right now so I'd rather use my 4TB external SSD.
