its sad that AKAI have not implement rex 2 in stand alone. if akai hear me on this most defiantly there marketing would be outstanding .

reason

any one can chop up a loop/samples . but its a bit a prosses for all of us.

its faster loading rex 2 into mpc one / force because there 2 types of data .

midi
slices
sync (looks up nicely only edit if needed)

just like FXpansion GURU, Geist2, reason of course , and korg Stockholm, any daw.

"Propellerhead Software devised a clever time-stretching solution that applies MIDI thinking to digital audio. Their ReCycle program takes a piece of digital audio, cuts it into small segments (“slices”), notes where in the measure(s) these segments occur, then creates a MIDI file that triggers the segments at the appropriate time within the measure(s)."

importing rex 2 into the mpc in STAND ALONE its defiantly possible to accomplish. no b.s. menu diving and over kill editing.

the timing loading loops (rex 2) its way faster. hands down. more head room (save space and doesn't tap)

can akai do this? it doesn't hurt to contact Propellerhead for support if there a licensing thing it can work out . if its a go then its a go.

what will happen if they do ? oh shit. all parties from sample lib would have a field day, producers building songs extremally faster.

this should have been done years ago . i wish akai could do this. if a company to date comes out with a rex 2 sampler in hardware >>> game over akai .

i am thinking investing building a hardware 16 track rex 2 player. i am losing patience i waited for 15 years.

so please AKAI add rex 2 into standalone MPC 3 same method as FXpansion GURU / Geist2..

It's physically impossible possible to implement rex2 support into standalone. The standalone system is run on a Linux operating system and rex2 is only supported on Windows and Mac systems, which is why they implemented it into the DAW version but cannot do so in the standalone version. So unless Reason Studios offer developers a way to decompile REX2 files within Linux, Akai's hands are completely tied on this.

I don’t know why they can’t implement Rex loading in the newer MPCs the 4000 was able to load Recycle files, surely isn’t that hard to implement

I just bounce reason rex loops as audio first now and then import into the newer MPCs if there are any older Rex loops I need

The MPC4000 cannot not load REX files. As I said in my post, this is a restriction of the REX format, it requires a Windows or Mac environment to 'decode' the file format, as per restrictions imposed by Reason Studios.

You can of course export rex files from Recycle as WAV or sliced AKP programs. You can also load REX into the MPC Software and export as a patched phrase file. but REX files in any environment other than win or mac is a no-go.

I never said it loads Rex format directly it can load recycle files converted to Akai formats given it’s the same proprietary file system don’t see why they can’t allow this conversion for newer generation directly of Rex format the coding must be already there if it allows conversion to Akai formats the newer generation MPCs load my older 4000 programs/kits albeit with a few omissions in the engine parameters but most kits have loaded with no problem

What do you mean it can 'load recycle files' if you don't mean 'rex' files? What other files are you referring to?

Uncle Dieppe wrote: I said it can load recycle files not the Rex format!!!given it’s the same proprietary file system don’t see why they can’t allow it to also read the direct Rex format the coding is there to read the recycle file

Okay, to quote your edited post, this still makes no sense. You are talking about loading AKP and WAV files into the MPC4000, this has nothing to do with recycle nor any special 'recycle friendly' features of the MPC4000.

Recycle converts to AKP, the MPC4000 supports AKP files. And regardless, the MPC Software also loads AKP files, as does standalone (or it did' I assume they haven't removed this support).

Anyway, we already mentioned how the MPC can load AKP, this discussion is about supporting actual REX files, which is not possible.

It’s can’t be that hard to modify the newer systems coding to allow Rex importing into the MPC.

Recycle supports the transfer of Rex to Akai wave file format on the recycle program it’s not like it a completely alien format to Akai by conversion standards!Recycle has been around for years now and I would say it probably been a standard for many loopmakers who perhaps don’t use Akai hardware or any other hardware samplers irrespective of it being a platform specific coding its already 50% compatible even just to use it to convert for AKP files

Propellerhead (Reason studios)have now made recycle free to use anyway so it’s not like Akai would need any form of licensing in order to utilise the coding I just think having the ability to load and use Rex files direct would be a huge plus to this generation of MPCs,and not just for us long time Reason/Recylce users either

I have a vast array of Rex loops I’ve collected and created over the years that would be awesome to simply load in and off you go,sure there are workarounds to getting the audio in but direct file transfer would be perfect

You don't seem to be reading any of the previous info in this topic. Akai cannot implement the necessary decoding tools within a Linux operating system, in order to do so they have to obtain an SDK from Reason Studios and a Linux versiob simply does not exist. It has nothing to do with how the Recycle app itself can convert into WAV and AKP, that's because Recycle is made by Reason Studios and they've locked up the conversion within Recycle software. There is nothing available to Akai.

It’s can’t be that hard to modify the newer systems coding to allow Rex importing into the MPC.

It is if Reason Studios are not able to provide you with the SDK to decompile your files in a Linux environment.

I just find it weird how they support the transfer of Rex to Akai wave file format on the recycle program it’s not like it a completely alien format by conversion standards Reccle has been around for years now irrespective of it being a platform specific coding as it already 50% already compatible even just to use it for AKP files

Again, what the Recycle app can do is irrelevant to what Akai are allowed and technically able to achieve in a Linux environment for their own software.

Propellerhead have now made recycle free to use anyway so it’s not like Akai need any form of licensing in order to utilise the coding

The cost of the Recycle app is irrelevant, the Recycle app is ultimately just another application that utilises the REX SDK (it just happens to be able to create REX files as well, which is a feature that no third party is given access to).

The SDK to decompile REX files certainly does need to be licensed and is licensed to Akai for use in Windows and Mac applications. But as no SDK exists for Linux, it cannot be licensed to Akai for standalone MPC.

And with that, I'm done with this discussion, I can only repeat myself so many times :)

As previously mentioned, the REX file format is proprietary, and its specification has not been officially disclosed by Propellerhead. The only available libraries for decoding REX files are distributed as precompiled binaries for Windows and macOS. As such, decoding or using REX files directly on Linux-based systems like the MPC is not currently feasible.

Methinks the original poster doesn’t understand that the hardware is running a stripped down version of the Linux operating system, not the bloatware that is in the Windows and Mac OS systems.

Just because the software version of the MPC app is coded for and runs on the Windows and Mac operating systems, doesn’t mean the hardware is running either version.

For what it’s worth, even though the hardware version of the MPC runs on Linux, Akai have not released a software version that runs on the Linux operating system on a regular PC, right? So users on Ubuntu or any other flavor of the Linux operating system are SOL if they actually wanted to run the MPC software (probably don’t anyway).

DavidTee wrote:O H WOW i found something i didnt know about MASCHINE can import REX2 files, including their slicing information but mpc cant omg

MPC Software can absolutely import REX2 also, including the slicing information, it's just MPC standalone that cannot. Pretty sure it's only Maschine software on PC/Mac that can import REX2; Maschine+, which is runs on Linux, cannot.
