Autosample tail issue

Hi all,

New member here. I have the mpc live 3 (FW 3.6.0). I’ve been using the autosampler on MPCs for a while now but just noticed an issue that’s not cropped up for me before.

I’m trying to capture the tail after the ‘key is pressed’ on my DAW instrument, but there is no tail being recorded. Just the sound when the key is pressed.

When I play the instrument on the DAW there is definitely a tail, but I can’t get the MPC to capture it. I’ve listened while the autosampling is taking place and it seems like it’s just pressing the note (which is recorded) and then moving to the next.

I have tried various note and tail lengths and (perhaps obviously) I have no looping enabled.

Any help greatly appreciated!

First, check in the Sample Edit screen to see if the length of the autosampled sample matches the total of your note length and tail length settings.
If the length is correct, it might be some kind of user error.

I just checked in MPC Live 3, no problem capturing tail when recording from an internal plugin instrument, not able to check external MIDI where I am ATM (e.g. 1 second sample time, 5 second tail time = 6 second sample with tail).

Separately I would say that it's much better to not sample with tail, just sample with 0 tail and create your own tail using the release in amp env, that way you control when the tail is added (especially if you later sustain loop the sample)

For most autosampled instruments, I do usually set the tail manually using the release. That makes it sound passable, but from my experience, manually creating a tail using the release also doesn’t work well on multisampled acoustic instruments.

I’ll keep looking into it (or just suck it up and use the DAW).
