Splitting drums across tracks and muting some of them...

My goal is to mute and unmute parts of a drum pattern with track mutes. So the first track is a drum kit with all the sounds and additional drum tracks sending midi to the first track. It works fine when you change tracks and record individual hats, kick, snares in each. But when I mute one of the additional drum tracks to silence just that one part - its not muting. Only muting the first track mutes everything.

How is it supposed to work?

For drum track you mute the whole track & or each pad. Go into the pad mixer. You can also use the 2 Project macros & set up 32 knobs to mute track/pads. Each macro can have about 636 parameters (it slow down your system if you used that many). You can use the 64 Pad FX macros to set up mutes.

When playing live i want to stay in track mute mode, my plan is to have a kit element per track. i.e. All my kicks are in track one, claps in track 2, open hat 3, close hat 4.

I also do three separate tracks for bass, like intro / verse / chorus ( or bass, bass more , bass most - as I label them). Same thing again for pads and on and on. A song might end up with 20 - 24 tracks, so I only have to go between bank A and B in track mute mode.

Its effectively how i performed with OS2 - in OS3, I just have to be more mindful that an instrument will always be the same track, so additional/alternative hats will always be on track 32...sometimes lazy me would put them wherever in bank B in OS2.

Fingers crossed that Per Sequence Instrument Preset Program Changes will arrive and improve my life in the near future.

What are these 64 Pad FX macros?
Can't see them under Qlink edit.

My low IQ surprises even me. I was audio muting becasue its the default.

I'm trying to do the same as you. Nostlagia is amazing because I don't remember the old Akais requiring a PhD to mute and unmute to create a song.

This is default on the Force & L3, but it's one of the Advanced Marcos features in the Pro-Pack.

On the Force there a mode call Pad Grid in the Macro section after the crossfader that let you use all 64 pads at once! On Gen 1, there is no 'Pad Grid' tab on the bottom of the Q-link edit screen. So it can't be done by screen. The Gen 2 adds OS features which leave the Gen 1 behind and we're all not being clear about which gen when we talk about features. Its like a different machine altogether.

Not saying anyone is wrong or lying. The Pad Grid mode is not in the Pro-Pack for Gen1 machines. And indeed Akai don't list it in the pro-pack when you buy it for gen1 machines. I wouldn't even know about Pad Grid mode unless I had a Live III.

Your right it's not Pad Grid mode isn't on gen1. I could've bet on everything that I saw it on there. The person videos I watched used both a One & Live3 & I must've mixed it up. I hope that feature makes to gen1 to complete the transfer of the Force macros. You still have 32 knob you set up however you like via the 2 Project macros.
