Can I assign audio inputs to clips. So when I change the clip, the effects setting change to the new clips settings?

I'm assuming that I'd have a clip for my midi to send to a hardware synth, and then when I move to my next part that will be a different clip. But the audio track for the synth will need new settings, and fx. The synth maybe a pad going through chorus and reverb, but the next part it could be a bass going though phaser and distortion.

I just don't get how this ties together.

You can’t normally have different track effects for each clip. But you can record automation into a clip, or you can use snapshots in the clip matrix to change effect settings or turn effects on and off.

I'm not getting how clips works for a live set then, just for playing one track.

Can you change effects in the automation? I'm not going to want a synth stuck with the same pool of fx for a whole set. Can you switch the master fx on the sends?

Definitely do not want clips per sequence. The global clip pool is a great way to keep a central bank of ideas. This allows you to safely try different song versions with sequences. Clips per sequence would break that functionality. I agree with having multi-projects though.

The 4k multi indeed was a much better way of handling programs. You had the flexibility without the tradeoffs of how MPC 2.x handle it. I was one of the people who hated the way MPC 2.x handled programs. It was way to fiddley and ruined the fast workflow needed to quickly find and replace sounds. You had to manually manage tracks to program relationships and worry how that lined up in song mode etc. Seemed unnecessarily cumbersome. Hopefully Akai can come up with a more flexible way to cater to live sets while keeping the simplicity of the current OS.

Hey B-Righteous (no relation  ), I feel the same way. It be messy & they would have to fix the lack of tims-sigs per clip first.

Instead of different clip per sequence, you can dedicated a separate section of clips for each seq you use. There 999 rows on the Force. I don’t know the limit on the MPC, but it shouldn't be different.

Does anyone know the how many rows a MPC project can have?
By Masi Sun Nov 16, 2025 9:35 pm
I understand now that there are different use cases and approaches.

The most flexibe way would be that clips (or rows) can be assigned to a clip pool. And each pool can be assigned to as many sequences as you like.

By default any unsassigned clip (or clip) pool is available for all sequences.

I assumes this would cover everything, right?

As for multi-projects:
Do you expect to be able to be able to have completely different tracks in each sub-project? How would a transition from one sub-project to the next work?

The clip pool has 999 rows :) I agree that it's good to have a global clip pool, and build my sequence when I need it.
Each row can have it's own tempo ( long press on row button gives access to the setting.

you can't have mixed time signatures, only one, but the workaround exists, and it is really fun to play with :

you can set clips to any lenghts, from 24 ticks to hundred of bars.... and they playback looped with this settings. so any row can have a different length, meaning you can do what you want, polymetric,and/or any time signature on different clips.
If you set your project time signature to 1/4 or 1/8 . each bars will become... a step.
So 7 bars clip is : 7 steps measure. it's close to easy to "read" bar number as a step number.

For audio tracks needing different set of effects : you have to duplicate track (and mute the unused one) so it's limited. you can use submixes ( but you have to route manually your audio track to it, a 5second task that can be complicated on live situation.)

you can quickly load fx chains from the main mode audio track strip. If you set your browser first at the good folder, and name your fx chains properly, it's another 5s task giving you full control.

you can use the 4 sends/ returns to have an audio track routed thru 4 different FX chains, using a project q link bank and automations to have it fixed where you want at the start of the clip or row.

hope it helps

They need something like a "Multi-Project Mode," so that each can have their own Global settings for stuff like send/return/Master Out FX settings & for gen1, each can have their own 8 plugins/audio tracks. Then a separate clip matrix for each would make sense, since they are different Projects loaded into a Multi-Project. This may only possible on gen2, but there should be a way to have all those other projects on stand by while 1 is active.

That way you could pull up whatever clip pool you need in any particular context, and not be bothered by clips you don't need. Aligning clip pools with sequences raises all kinds of questions about copying, accessing clips from another sequence etc.

Yes, that would be even more flexible.

But then I want to be able to assign a default pool for a sequence. Otherwise switching a sequence will force you again to go fast to the next set of clips (previously clip launch rows, then clip pools).

Yeah, default per sequence would be good, or just remember the last pool used for each sequence.

No. The FX slots are fixed for the entire project. You can’t swap them dynamically.

I'm still on 2.5 not making the jump due to the changes to sequence mode, (also because when I took a look at V3, it didn't load my Midi Mappings and I have over 200 of them) but haven't really switched on the MKPC much in the last 6 months. But the clip launch seems like it could be worth the leap, if I didn't have to financially commit to do so.

I thought with Version 3 they had tidied up how midi tracks linked with audio tracks, and hope this would benefit external hardware synths. I'm wondering if a clip can be one audio track assign to say Input 1 (with FX assigned to it), and another clip could be a different audio track, but assign to the same audio input (with different FX assigned to it.), and then switch between the clips? But a B-Wise's comment in this thread about 8 insert FX was something I'd forgotten about MPC3 update.

I didn't mention 8 insert FX in this thread, but you can do that in gen1 with 4 input FX & 4 master FX. You need to send the master output to an external recorder or do what I do & send it to my mixer's (Mackie 1202 VLZ-Pro4) aux sends & have my headphones plugged into the mixer to hear all 8 FXs.

Sorry, mis-read the end of this.

12. track, sub-bus, master. why tho... why would you want to do that lol..
