MPC One 'Low on Temporary Space' after upgrade to 3.6

Upgraded to 3.6 and get 'Low on Temporary Space' on start up. I reset preferences, gone back and fourth between down and upgrading from 2.15 many times. Have set the temporary location internal and SD drive.

Logged with Akai and they said:

1. Check Temporary File Location: Go to Menu > Preferences > Project Load/Save and ensure that the Temporary File Location is set to an external drive, preferably formatted to exFAT. Since you mentioned setting it to your SD drive, make sure it is indeed selected correctly.

SD was and is set to exFAT with a full (no quick) reformat

2. Restart the MPC: After changing the Temporary File Location, you need to either create/load a project or restart your MPC for the changes to take effect.

It's always a new project, my SD file is blank of any projects and there is no user content on the internal drive.

3. Internal Drive Space: Even though you mentioned not having user projects or files on your internal drive, it's still a good idea to check if the internal drive has sufficient space. You can do this by pressing the Menu button, tapping on the CPU/RAM meters, and selecting Drives to see the available space.

777.MB free of 3.9GB and 29.9GB free of 30GB

4. Disk Streaming Feature: The MPC 3 OS introduces a Disk Streaming feature that relies on the performance of the selected disk. If the SD drive is reaching full capacity, it may cause this warning. Ensure that your SD drive has enough free space for temporary files.

I am jumping between two SD drives and Kingstone 16GB and San Disc 2GB, both blank and formatted to ExFat.

If you continue to experience issues after following these steps, consider using a different external drive, such as an SSD, for better performance.

Really, everything is blank, apart from preloaded demos, am I being fobbed off here?




Any suggestion?

May be time to step it up to the Live 2 or Live 3.

6 and half weeks and I'm unemployed and have to pay some Uni fees. Am trying to justify $100 on the Pro-Pack, no way I'm buying any hardware.

But I can't be the only MPC ONE user upgrading to 3.6

i miiiight just for the new time strech algo but its not needed i honestly think its pointless os

The positives of staying on 2.15 were keeping a system as, the old way of moving from sequence to sequence and no more temptation to spend money., but a couple of things changed recently for me.

Multi Midi note off bug was fixed - I sequence externally from my DAW using lots of different tools (scaler, arps. step sequencers etc), so this fix affects me.

Clip Launcher - will help with live performances, which is why solely why I have the MPC

CV Tools - I have 2 CV synths and one has really long envelopes, a capacitor mode can shorten them, but I could use the MPC envelopes instead, as well as other functions.

Good reverb - at last.

So now the pendulum has swung in 3.6's favour, it's only going to swing further in time.

I really don't know what the negative of this error message is, but I am wary spending more money until I know more.

My MPC One (black) that I just updated to 3.6 also gives the "Warning: Low on temporary space" message on startup

I really don't know if this is anymore of an issue than an annoying warning sign. Especially as I don't think I am low on disk space, and espeically if I set to the Tempory file to my SD drive, knowing it's got 15GB plus of space.

I replied to Akai responding to all there suggestions, and they said they have passed my Ticket further up the line.

It would be good to know if other MPC ONE users are affected, if they are, surely they can replicate the error at Akai.

Have you had a poke around the Mpc documents folder to check what’s taking up the space? Edit: don’t mean to sound condescending, I’m just thinking maybe some plugins have ended up on the internal.

That sounds reasonable, how can I see what's on the disk?

Not condescending at all, any suggestions are welcome. And it's really helpful to know what others are showing in their storage, for comparison, so thanks.

By MPC Retro, do you mean the black one or the Red one?

I'm good at some stuff on the MPC, but woeful on others, and it's file management is on of them. From what I have seen, it's mainly the Demo Projects and the preinstalled kits, but I will take another look later, to see if anything else.

I've only ever bought the modelling synths, none of the sample based stuff like Fabric. The synths folder I know are on my SD card, because it keeps telling me it's missing when when I try using a newly formatted SD.

So, I found what was taking up all the internal drive space - at least on my MPC! I had bought this second-hand, and I thought I'd deleted all the previous owner's projects. What I did not know, was that in the BROWSER OPTIONS there's a checkbox for "Hide Project and Track data folders" which was checked. I unchecked that, then went looking in the internal drive from the browser on the MPC. I found quite a number of _[ProjectData] folders and related stuff - deleted all that. Now my drive is half-full, and the annoying warning message doesn't display on startup anymore

This is basically what I was going to suggest next. Also, if you do any multitrack type of recording, check that there’s nothing left in the temporary files folder.

One retro is the grey one but it’s basically the same as the black one. I would definitely try out the steps described in the post above. Hope you get it sorted!
