Hey Fam,
Just wanted to share what seemingly fixed issues on my MPC 2500 with a dead left output on both stereo out and headphones. That was like 2 weeks ago and still no issues with audio.
So, long story short (or rather short story long), I started getting crackling noises in my headphones when adjusting the Main Volume knob. I checked the Stereo Out - same thing. My immediate thought was that the volume encoder is dying. Soon after, the left channel was barely audible and then it went dead silent.
As I was Googling trying to figure out the part number for the encoder and contemplating my existence and whether to fix the 2500 or sell it, I found a thread on Reddit where someone fixed output issues on their 1000 by reseating the cable right next to the volume knob:
I didn't have much faith in this, but I opened the beauty and the cable looked good - there was only a very tiny gap between the plug and socket. I pushed the cable to the end and to my surprise, I got perfect audio with equal levels on both channels!!!
Before putting the chassis back, as I didn't want to use glue to keep the cable secured in the socket, I twisted it in the opposite direction to how it was before, so now it pushes against the chassis, which should keep it in place.
I can't help but wonder in how many cases the actual issue was that the cable got loose over time and not the volume pot dying
TLDR: Reseat the cable on the right of the Main Volume knob and make sure it's pushed to max.
