1st red flag: it cannot be 2x power of L3 because there is no such chip. rk3588 comes in one flavour only:
quad core A76 + quad core A55 / 6TOPS NPU / Mali G610. The only variable with this board is ram which comes with 4 / 8 /16 or 32 gigs

thats also what i‘ve thought first, could be a typo or maybe he meant ram… but his „theory“ of the new layout would make sense in regards to the increased size we‘ve „discovered“.

a redflag for me would also be the name „XL“, but then …its still akai so even that would add up.

Codename doesn't matter that much, it could be for internal purposes only (remember my screenshot with SE being called XL? lol) besides... remember that ADA2 was called boris the turtle, then at later stage it became APC Live to finally become what we know as Force  ACVK is called Force6 but where did that 6 came from - have no idea :WTF:
as for qlinks - best scenario, they would need around 48-50cm (19in) pcb + an inch of space inside the case + the chasis itself which would put it around 60cm (23-24 inches) wide. Don't know about you but it's a lot imho

This might be a boring take but I'd think the case seemingly being slightly bigger than the 1. gen X would suggest they added step sequencer buttons between the pads and the screen. Not sure how they'd be able to fit in a touch strip as well without removing any buttons of the original, which IMO they shouldn't. Same processor as the Live 3, same amount of RAM. That's it.

I'm more concerned about the Key 61, but if even a next gen MPC One would need to have larger pads for the quad function then I suppose the next Key 61 would also need to have a deeper chassis, meaning there would be space for a bigger screen too and so they might as well base a new Key 61 on the X instead and give us the full set of qlink knobs already.

This would off course make many users very happy. And worse: Perfectly content with owning one single MPC model. So maybe not. Then again it would also mean serious competition for Roland, Korg, Yamaha and Kurzweil so Akai might actually consider it if they're able to realize the potential of their own product but I somehow doubt that they are.

i would like to see them make the new XL end caps to be like the og MPC 60, dat triangular side profile and the subtle slant angle of the OG is a good look.

It would be good to see the return of sliders like the 2500 having two sliders would be good for the mixer screen, but i suppose the touch strips are more versatile.

While I agree with you that the touch strip is mostly "more versatile"... the touch sensitivity of it is annoying and it can pick up when you are "just near enough" to it without touching it. There's also the issue that the resolution of it isn't really great, and definitely areas where a slider with give better physical feedback. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice addition to the MPC Live 3, but I can see a case being made for both a touch strip and a physical slider :D

The Force uses its 64 pads as step sequencer button. I don't really use it but its amazing if that's your thing. I most play patterns in live.
The 64 pads also act macros. So, basically the 16 step/function buttons aren't really needed & is way to compensate for the of 64 or even 32 pads.

Unlike the 16 step/function buttons on L3, the Force & MPC drum pads are velocity & pressure sensitive which makes them way more powerful, like for example, you can use the Pad FX macros to assign mixer level & have the vol be affected by paf pressure so that you can adjust the vol with finger pressure turn the 64 pads into 64 faders.

The L3 has 16 top buttons are great for quickly selecting tracks, the Force has 8 & that enough in most cases, plus it lines up with what being showned on the 8x8 clip-matrix.

I see them making a Key 88 with bigger MPCe pads & more qlinks (hopefully with the little screens) before they remake a another 61. But, they can also make the MPC compatible with the APC64 or whatever & then they can keep most of the smaller MPCs the same as now but with the added new processing power of gen².

I rather have a crossfader over a slider like on the 2500. Hopefully, they can improve the sensitivity of the touchstrip in the future.

Since they are adding the touchstrip to the X, it concerns me a bit because others reporting how easily it can get scratched up. To buy a 3000.00-4000.00$Cad Product and that be the case would just be a shame...
The fact that's the case on the Live3 tells me how little they put the unit through a proper test.

This all reminds me how horrible Akai really is. I think I may take a backseat on this one until someone reports back about it. 3.(whatever), USB Audio Out, a Touch Strip and New Pads addresses very little problems I had with the New Mpc's. In fact two of those create new problems. The OS is not good. The Pads... Meh honestly... Could care less. I think the only thing that I like there is the USB Audio Out, but that isn't enough.
With the New Mpc OS, the Mpc workflow is sorta dead. Like it's a sampler-like-daw, but I dont think it's worth dealing with Akai for another 5-10 years of weird updates(or lack there of) and just a stack of Vst's and Samplepacks to buy...

Anyways. My 2 Cents.
I'm just gonna sit back and hope it ends up dope.

It's not dead at all, I'm able to comfortably make beats on v3.

Personally I don't have much need for the step sequencer buttons, touch strip or the quad pads but whether these new additions is to ones liking or not, there's a faster processor now and way more RAM, which - out of any shortcomings I've seen mentioned - is by far what was needed the most.

The touch strip can be scratched? Who is scratching the touch strip? They have been putting touch strips on synths for at least thirty years… and synths worth a lot more then three grand. It seems like a strange thing to be worried about.. don’t keep a box of nails above it? It is not gonna scratch if you use it for what it was made for.. you just rub a finger on it, it us plastic so I wouldn’t rub sharp objects over it.
