General questions regarding definitions/capabilities

First off, let me say that I don't own an mpc yet, but I've been doing a lot of comparison between the 1K and 2K (yes, I've even done some seaching on this site, but haven't found answers to these questions). Before you roll your eyes, this is not a post about which one is better. In an attempt to know the spec differences between them, I've created a little comparison sheet, but I'm having trouble understanding a few terms.

1. Notes. I don't understand how the 2K can hold/produce 300,000 notes and the 1K can hold/produce 100,000 even when, by default, the 1K comes with a lot more storage. What do the manuals mean by "notes" and how is it not related to storage? or is it and the 2K just uses a different format?

2. Removable storage devices (either flash or zip). Is it possible, assuming you have more than 1 song stored on your device, to mix them? I mean, can you play an entire song off of, say flash, and as it's ending, fade-in another song from the same card? Can you do beat matching on the song fading-in?

1. The max number of notes an mpc can hold in memory has nothing to do with the storage specs. It's a sequencer specs thing.

Ok. Than can you or someone explain to me (or point me in a direction) "notes" . I took music lessons for 5 years when I was younger, so when I hear the term "notes" I think of a note in the classical sense. Does note in this sense refer to some kind of A/D conversion?

The note were talking about in an mpc is exactly the same as a note in the classical sense.

Ok cool. Well then why is there a difference from one mpc to the next if it's not storage related. Does it have to do with how many can be played simultaneously, or total, or is it more about frequency range.

I guess it's just the akai peeps who decided that the sequencer of the mpc1k should only keep max 100000 notes in memory, probably since it's the 'entry-level' mpc whereas the 2Kxl and 3K and 4k are more expensive machines and therefore should have a sequencer that can hold more notes in memory. (b4 peeps start flamin this comment was no judgement on the mpc1000 vs the other mpc's ).

I understand completely. You can compare this to cars.

Cheaper cars, compact, V4, V6 types.
More expensive cars, V6 up to V12 and have more features.

I think I understand it now, too. Just spent some time at the local Guitar Center and played around with the 1k (despite no one helping me, I think I found the bank of notes it has, and have a better understanding)
