It sort of looks like it has the rubbery squishy buttons from the Live series. Hard to tell from the pic if its the solid click buttons.

Only problem they will eventually move the software and firmware away feom legacy MPCs support in the next few years.. but I definitely dont like the layout at all..

Not a problem: just buy for the current state.

Akai's upgrade policy has been more than reasonable... No manufacturer offers eternal upgrade and few improve their product as much as Akai has, much less for free.

Just like the old MPC, the current generation will remain useful a couple decades after their official EOL (and some will still use MPC 2.6 then !). There will always be newer and better, and it is not always the better choice: price and familiarity matter too.

Agree as a X owner its tough to downgrade to live 3 but if the pics are real I believe alot of us will give a go..

I’m missing the side grip panels..

Sure. I'll prefer a Live 3 or even an old X above the new X and possibly a new Key 61 if they screw up with that one too and I'll probably be able to make noise for years and years, that's true. It's more about the potential of things and the likely scenario of Akai unnecessarily ruining what could have been great. I'd sure like to be able to continue to get updates, get a better processor and more RAM but as things look I'm not sure it will be worth it. Let's just sat that I will not be surprised if a new Key 61 comes without a tiltable screen or more than 4 qlink knobs or they are lined up horizontally. I hope I'm wrong.

Isn't the knob layout & the on screen layout already messed up on the other MPC? Like sometimes they're going horizontally or vertically.

Hopefully they'll change how knobs are displayed on screen or at least have an option to do so. This is something that may not be a problem once you get used to it.

This is how the Force is set up but with 16 knobs instead of 8 & most of us didn’t really complained. X users will need more time to adjust to this than Force users.

The q-link layout should not be a problem at all since the screens on the unit tell you exactly what you are adjusting. Only the 4 knob units rely on the desktop or the touchscreen to use the knobs. The layout makes perfect sense to follow the step sequencer buttons.

16 step buttons with dedicated mode buttons for those, touch strip and MPCe pads means they packed more tactile control into this. Well, other than the loss of the 6 screen function buttons. The size is no issue for me since it would go into a rolling stand to the side of my desk. I like it, just need to take out a second mortgage and I will be set.

I like the look of it way better than the Live3

Not for me as I’ve moved away from large setups to being more mobile. But that’s a nice kit

I really wish they’d come out with a new studio with the updated pads etc. Come on Akai there’s dozens of us that like the none standalone units lol

I have just been lurking mostly, but this thing looks crazy! I love the qlink knobs and screens above the step sequencer. Looks Cirklon esque to me. This will be a day one purchase for sure. Can't wait.

Im hoping this isn't real.. I would never buy it at all.. as much as I dislike the live 3i have to make a trip to guitar center to see the live 3 in person and play around with it... ill keep my X .. this definitely wont sell as many as the X did and SE ..
