MPC One + bricked

Hey guys,

ACV here. New MPC user but I've owned many synths / workstations over the years. I bought a used MPC One +. The drive was full. I thought I'd attempt to restore it too new. I should have just left it alone. Anyway, long story short, I contacted Akai and they sent a two-page byzantine process that I attempted to follow. Now the MPC One comes up to the MPC screen and does nothing. I think it's bricked.

I don't know this for sure, but I think there may be an internal SD card. If so, can I get a new one from Akai with the factory content on it?

Heck, while I'm asking -- the thing is dead anyway -- should I just get a new larger drive?

I see that people SSH into the device and can fix things internally. Is there a guide for this somewhere?

I know this has all been covered before. I have looked at the forum and see all kinds of processes and procedures. I don't know enough to know where to start. And honestly, I was hoping to make beats not be an Akai embedded Linux tech. I find that I get frustrated with it and shut it off.

I don't want to trouble you guys with such a noob start, but I'm a little worn out trying to use it and I'm hoping there's a guide somewhere that says how to get this back to factory.

Well your MPC isn't "bricked" because it's still trying to start up.
I would probably SLOWLY go through each step of the Akai process again and see if that leads you in the right direction. Patience may pay off.

Search up Hakai on facebook and just find one of the releases and it will guide you on how to use ssh. And if you unit is soft bricked you can find instructions on houw to revive it using a button combo + a PC.

You are correct. When I pulled the SD card out after pulling the power (couldn't shut it down) It booted back up. The 2.15.1 update / revert seemed to work, but the content didn't install.

I figured this out.

TL;DR: the instructions were close, but wrong. In the instructions it says:

5. Copy the 2.15.1 firmware onto the same drive.
6. Turn on the MPC and roll back the firmware by navigating to Menu > Preferences > Info tab, then select Update > USB Drive Update.
7. Once downgraded, the MPC will start the import automatically.
8. The MPC screen will go blank and will start importing the content. DO NOT POWER OFF UNIT (This process will take around 20-minutes).


The issue is in step 7: Once downgraded, the MPC will start the import automatically. This is not true. The autoload.json does not automatically start. In fact, in my case, even if I rebooted the system with the card installted the autoload.json was not triggered.

I fond that the "only way" to trigger the autoload.json was to insert the SD card after the One+ was booted. This must have triggered the autorun.json. Once triggered, it asked "Install content? This will only install on an MPC One+." I pressed the Yes button, the screen went dark, and the install started. It took less than 20 minutes to install too. More like 10.
