expect a long wait if the gen1 release spacing is anything to go by; key 61 came out in june 2022 about 5 years after the og X was released, the gen 1 release order was as follows:

2017- Live mk1 & MPC X
2019 -MPC Force
2020 - MPC One & MPC Live 2
2022 - MPC Key 61
2023 - MPC X SE & MPC One+
2024 - MPC Key 37

Assuming Akai intend to release in the same order, which appears to be the case,as we seen the Live 3 drop first before the new flagship X

I do think the release process may be expedited for the next gen releases, as the products already exist and they are just updating them.

So after the X flagship expect the MPC Force replacement, followed by the MPC One (MPC Two)

It seems Akai dont release more than two hardware devices per year, So I expect the Force replacement by end of 2026, which means we have to wait until 2027 for MPC Two and a new Key 61.

So basically we are expecting 6 new devices to refresh the existing gen 1 line; I need to look at the old threads where dusty finger hacked the software and exposed of AVC hardware codes, cos if there is more then 6 devices then we will be getting wildcard new hardware devices (MPC mini perhaps, lol)

But ultimately once they drop the MPC Two then I will make a call between getting that MPC Two or just getting the Live 3 as dat device has grown on me, after initally thinking it was overly cluttered and a bit ugly.

I did return the Key 61 today, since my return window was closing and the GC manager said I could lose like 40% if I wait and then return it. I'll certainly keep an eye on things and keep following and reading, and thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge, and for your advice.

Awe that's a real shame... you really should experience items you bought for yourself to make your own opinion. The things people say here are to be taken with a grain of salt. Some are really skilled others are new, some just do what the trends are to fit in etc etc. If you're really into music and you make a hardware purchase i recommend keeping the item for a few years to really get down to the center of its onion. Sure the next MPC has more nuts, but they dont have a built in keybed yet and their rom sucks (imho).

I know - I am a very indecisive buyer, but I will be purchasing something very soon.

Well I have a Key 61 that's I'd had since release and I love it. I almost got a Live 3 but realized that I can do everything I want to musically with the Key 61. It has 4GB of RAM and everything works well for me on it. I wish Decksaver would release one of their units for it, but other than that everything related to it has been golden. I would suggest keeping it, because there has been no leak of a Key 61 update, only the MPC XL. At the end of the day its up to you, but the Key 61 is an amazing music making device. :worthy:
