Hi all,

I recently upgraded the firmware on my Live 2 to OS v3.5.0

The new OS is fine, honestly, and it didn't take me long to navigate around the new layout.

Two things I have noticed that is affecting my workflow:

Samples that have been recorded, chopped, then converted to a new track, don't seem to make an audible difference when re-adjusting start/end points of individual chops. I would typically convert to new drum track using slices, & slice type set to pad parameters. I would then record a sequence with the new converted track, and listen with the internal metronome engaged to determine if transients in the chopped sample are tight. Adjustments to start/end points would then be made in sample edit which I would hear in real time as the sequence runs, or was the case on OS v2.5. I should mention that I will start chops with link slices on, then disabled to make fine adjustments prior to conversion.

Let me know if there's a new setting I may have overlooked, as I am trying to apply my exisiting workflow to the new OS.

Secondly, grid view:

I work predominately in grid view. It's great that the addition of list view is included to made adjustments, but I wish there was an option to view and cycle between available tracks in grid view, as opposed to returning to main menu, cycling to the required track, then returning to grid view. I'm aware that you can work around this by toggling the arrange tab, selecting the track, then returning the grid/list view.

Speaking of grid view, why did Akai remove the view options via the Q-links (zoom)?? Is there a way to re-map these view options to the Q-links? Kind of a great tool to navigate the grid view faster IMO.

Let me know your thoughts and tips!

You doing the same thing I do. I don’t think there’s a way around it.

I used this one a-lot too and don't like losing it.

To quickly change tracks from GRID, hold down [MAIN], tap on the track onscreen, release [MAIN]

Latest version is not 3.5 BTW, it's 3.6, make sure you have the latest as there were plenty of fixes.

When you slice and convert you have the option of chopping to slices or pad params. It sounds like you chose pad params, in which case the changes you later make in sample edit will have no effect on the track start/end points. If you want to continue editing slices from sample edit, always choose 'with slices' when converting.

I'm not sure if this makes a difference. But when I Convert, I set it to "Pad Parameter".

Thanks for the reply.

Choosing Non-Destructive Slice under the Convert or Assign Slices menu worked for me, and I can now freely adjust start/end points post-chop conversion. Much appreciated!

On another note, I have just upgraded the MPC Live 2 firmware to 3.6.0 via Update Mode, without issue. I was waiting for inMusic (web page) to release the 3.6.0 firmware file, which never happened. The inMusic Software Center application actually had the 3.6.0 firmware updater file, and I believe the Akai Professional website also have the firmware update files as well. Bit confusing that the firmware file can be sourced from either option, instead of one sole location. Technically, I could update to 3.7.0 now.

Good tip for the grid view - change tracks shortcut!

Cheers.
