I have an opportunity to trade my live 1 for a 2000XL

Open to any advice. My concerns about the xl are the limitations and the learning curve. My concerns about continuing to use the live 1 are that I'm not sold on the stability of version 3 while 2.15 isn't supported anymore. Also it's gold, it's my favorite part about it.

Is the screen in excellent condition and does it have the 8 outs ?

Not sure yet, just wondering if the effort is worth using it before I start asking serious questions with the owner.

Dont take this the wrong way but if you have to ask then its not worth it

There is nothing you can do on the 2000XL that your Live cant do. There is nothing the 2000XL will do to improve your music over your Live

You might however enjoy the simplistic limited work flow but I doubt it
If you've never chopped on an XL and only know the modern MPC workflow you will hate the XL lol

As far as 2.15 being supported I wouldnt worry about it. Itll still work until the hardware stops working
I too dont like the new OS and work everyday on 2.15 on my OG Live and studio. To me its the peak MPC experience. Going back to my 2000XL would be disappointing

Personally I would NOT do it...UNLESS I had another MPC LIVE in my Arsenal. 2000XL is sonically a good unit. But it would be a Workflow Downgrade

When working with the modern MPC line... I'm often thinking "what do I not need" because the MPCs with the plugins and effects and mixer and all... covers so much ground...

When working with the older MPCs... I'm often thinking "what else do I need" because the older MPCs do bring solid sequencing and sampling to the table... but until you build up your sample collection you'll need stuff to sample from... and the limited effects/mixing options generally means you'll need to bring more to the table...

especially as you move through sampling -> sequencing -> arranging -> mixing -> mastering...

Neither approach is wrong, and it's more about where you see you fitting in, and what your habits are. And as mentioned... there's clearly a place for both in your home and in your heart

OP it very much depends on your intentions for use. If you're thinking of just flipping it, the 2KXL holds it's value with collectors, whereas the Live 1 will not. I've been trying to shift that albatross for the last 9 months for $400 / $350, & no joy.

If you still use the Live a lot, then I'd think about it & way up what you want & need from an MPC.

Nah, that would be a hard NO from me. If you must have an old school beatmaking type feel, get a SP 404 mk2 or a Teenage Engineering KO II with 128MB RAM that it comes with now. Hold onto that Live as its a great device still and the workflow of the modern MPCs is pretty tight.

I have a Live2 and a couple of MPC 2000xl's (and lots of other samplers) - sure the Live can do more... but the MPC 2000xl's are a lot more fun to use. Id say if the MPC 2000xl is in good shape a straight swap would be a good deal. Be wary though if it needs work, the parts (and labour if you cant DIY) can soon make it very expensive
