I have an opportunity to trade my live 1 for a 2000XL

Is the loooooonger loading time, the lack of a touchscreen w color, less sample time, less powerful sampler, very limited macros, no built-in synths...?

A fun challenge may be to use the Live2 with the limits of a 2kXL?

Sure, I just find it a lot more 'immediate', you can navigate around it almost blindfolded. It's super quick to work with. I guess its what I started out with, so I'll always have a soft spot for it.

Cool, but don't let nostalgia fool blind to the fact that you can learn to use modern technology in the same way. You can organize the MPC3 menus in custom way that so when press a pad it goes to a particular windows.

Once you get used to your Project setup, you'll be able to use it blindfolded, if that's your party trick. Fun isn't just the gear, having fun is a mentality that you must to decide to have while using gear, vintage or modern!

Also, if it's really about immediacy, than that's a weak argument because both gen1 & 2 MPCs allows for more ways to go to different menus, especially now with the new main Mode that puts many things right in front of you. There's the quick menu on the left giving you immediate access to 5 menus, there the top pull down menu with 2 sub widows, the 2nd allows to turn on MIDI-Learn, you have the Pad menu. The gen 2 mpc especially the XL has more buttons for a faster workflow.

I didn't really come looking for an argument or justification for my opinion - as I said I have older mpcs, I have newer mpcs, I have lots of other samplers besides. I prefer the older ones, because like I said you can do it blindfolded. Thats kinda important to me as I dont have great eyesight, and prefer a workflow when I can rely on my ears rather than my failing eyes, You (and other people) might have a different opinion and thats great - it would be boring if we all felt the same.

I know we have different opinions, but what you're saying isn't factual, it's based on you liking the old one for reasons that the new models does better, that fact can't be brushed aside based on different opinions. You not willing to take the time to master the new ones isn't the machine fault. All the new MPC can be set up to be used blindfolded. The old ones had buttons/pads you pressed to go to a menu that you memorized & the new ones have buttons/pads & a screen that does the same thing that you haven't memorized.

This is exactly my point. Unless you learned and worked on older MPCs you will likely struggle with it. It is simplistic workflow due to limitations but it is also more "complicated" in terms of basic things like chopping, assigning samples, chokes/mute groups, etc.
