Was that with Monitor set to In?
When you lower the track levels in MPC does the crackling decrease too, or stay the same. This should indicate if it's the crackling is part of the audio signal or the part of the system. Back in the firewire, and pre USB 2 days, if buffer setting were too short, or the system overloaded, the crackling was a system noise, not and Audio signal.
Also if it is is changing with the mixer level, is it both stereo pairs from the octatrack or just one or the others.
Have you tried removing the octatract from the equation. Send the signal out the 2 stereo pairs, but then run the cables back into the inputs, routing that straight back in through the 2 tracks the octatrack was on.
It is regardless if Octatrack is in the chain or not.
Muting all but one Audio track at a time, and the crackling is there and all input channels. Not as loud, but still there. But that is to expect I guess, the crackle on Sequence change is loudest when all tracks are unmuted (so each crackle is added on top of each other = louder).
Monitor In was set on all tracks when muting them.
The crackles followed the volume, so lowering the signal and the crackles was also lowered. When lowering the volume like 50%, and cranking up headphone level to compensate, the crackle was equally there even with the lower input signal.
I've spent a full weeks evenings on this now, and I'm starting to be over this. I'm investigating if I will migrate to an Ableton Push 3 Standalone instead.
Just waiting for some answers regarding if it will solve my MPC annoyances first...
