Using M-Wave Chocolate for transport controls

Hi all, i saw someone mention in an older post they are using M Wave Chocolate MIDI switch to control MPC transport controls.

Does anyone have a quick little guide for me to get this to work? Or a post with the info? Ive been searching Google with no luck.

I've not done this, but I give it a go.
How is the Chocolate connected?
Is it showing in the MPC in Preferences > Midi/Sync?
Have you configured the Chocolate to send MMC using it's editor software?



I've never programmed SySex, but I'll post this and someone can jump in is I've got the wrong end of the stick

Example Commands (where 7F is the Device ID):
Play: F0 7F 7F 06 02 F7 (Play from current).
Stop: F0 7F 7F 06 01 F7 (Stop).
Record: F0 7F 7F 06 03 F7 (Record Start/Stop).
Fast Forward: F0 7F 7F 06 04 F7.
Rewind: F0 7F 7F 06 05 F7.

Looks promising, especially at that cheap price. It would be amazing to have it just for start/stop an punch record on the MPC.

I've set this up on 2.13 firmware, should work as good on 3.X firmware.

It is exactly as decribed above.

In the Cubesuite app. Set the footswitches to a "single bank" of information sent by the footswitches. Not sure, but perhaps you need to be in "Advanced custom mode" in Cubesuite.

Then you simply select "Custom" as the message type. Paste in the hex above and save each foootswitch mapping.

Should work directly.


There are some wrong hex-lines floating around in some of the topics on this forum. The ones above are the correct ones. I found this thread which helped me when trying to solve it.

try programming 1 button like this:

(decimal, without F0/F7)
Press - RECORD: 4 127 127 6 6
Release - RECORD STOP: 4 127 127 6 7

This is what worked for me using the Chocolate:

Play start (the MPC play start does something extra for internal play start function. So needed to send stop, locate 0 and then play to imitate the functionality)
F0 7F 7F 06 01 F7
F0 7F 7F 06 44 06 01 00 00 00 00 00 F7
F0 7F 7F 06 03 F7

Play/Continue: (regular play)
F0 7F 7F 06 03 F7

Stop:
F0 7F 7F 06 01 F7

Record (same toggles rec on/off):
F0 7F 7F 06 06 F7

A couple more questions:

* Record: does it activate Overdub or Overwrite record?
* Does the pedal work directly plugged to the USB port of the MPC?

Yes, it works connected directly into the usb port, or a usb hub.

Do not remember exactly now. But I'm pretty sure it worked as otherwise without a controller. If something is already recorded to a track, sending the Record message will enable Overdub. If it is an empty track it will enable Record.

I reeived mine a few days ago, and I totally love it.

The documentation is a mess, but with some trial and error, the instructions in this thread and the video Neodynium posted I've handled to make it work:

First Receiving MMC needs to be activated


Then download the CubeSuit app, pair the footswitch via bluetooth and set it to Advanced Custom Mode like this



Then, on each of the four switches, paste the relevant Sysex code block


and that's it. Plug it to the USB port of the MPC and it's immediately detected.

I totally love it. I really missed a pedal control capable to trigger play/stop and record while my hands are at the piano.

OK, I think Ive improved it a little, for Foot Switch A I have configured to switch between two banks



On Bank A, the former codes to play from the start: stop, locate 0, then play

F0 7F 7F 06 01 F7
F0 7F 7F 06 44 06 01 00 00 00 00 00 F7
F0 7F 7F 06 03 F7

On Bank B, just stop

F0 7F 7F 06 01 F7

This way, with one foot switch I can alternate between play and stop, without having to look at the pedal
