Using the One+ for rock songs

What is the One+ like for making electro-rock songs?

I want to perform my music live. The setup would be -
• vocals and guitar (not into the MPC)
• drums and synths from the MPC
• connected midi keyboard for some live synth work
• some samples of recorded bass if needed

Everything I find online talks about sample limits but not about building complex songs with varying sections just using the plugins.

My question is could a sequence be set up to play the backing of a traditional rock song? So it would have a unique verse, chorus, bridge, etc...

And would there be any limitations if I was performing a 5 or 6 songs?

Everything is pointing towards the One+ doing this but I would like to be 100% sure before buying it.

The One is perfectly suitable for that purpose. I use mine mostly for making/playing backing tracks of jazz standards.

You can make patterns with the verse, bridge , chorus, etc.. and then arrange those patterns in song mode.

Thank you. Every video i find is someone saying you can then it is just the same 4 loops being muted and muted. Or recording a guitar straight into it.

I didn't want to buy one then be limited by my song only being able to have like 4 parts.

One limitation is that you have to use the same meter for an entire project. You cannot switch eg from 4/4 to 6/8 within a song.

And just like in any DAW a track is bound to a single synth. This wasn't the case in MPC 1.x and 2.x but it is now in 3.x much to the dislike of some veteran users.
But probably no problem for you. It just means that you need more tracks if you want to cramp all your songs into one big project.
Beware that the unloading and loading time of projects is considerable. Be prepared to entertain the audience while the MPC is shuffling bits.

Also, if you want to process external gear with the MPC (eg using it as FX unit for tracks) you are limited to 8 tracks. And you have to buy an audio interface with that many inputs.

I hadn't considered load times. I would say most of my tracks would be drums then maybe 3 or 4 synths. Are we taking something like 10-15 seconds or much longer?

Yeah the mpc is a band in a box lol. it'll play your backup for you from project or let you play multiple instruments live.

One of the biggest things I like about the MPC is I can hook two or three people into it (more if i had more friends lol) and everyone can play a different instrument in the box. one guy drumming, another playing bass synth, another on keys or guitar. then all the vocal processing and crap. mpc handles the multiple tracks in real time with midi input just fine for the most part.

when people think about "using it live" i think they get the idea they can bash around the menus and load this and that and construct songs in real time but i dont think that is the intent in design. rather, than playing as a band in unison or playing back a project while you play over and sing over it.

If you look at it like a multi-track with built in synths, sequencer and effects it fits that bill perfect.

Depends on the synth. OPx4, Jura, MiniD load instantly, since they dont rely on external samples.

Other synths rely on samples and take longer, I have the pianos and the Fabric bundled with the propack and some patches take 5-10 seconds to load from SD card.

Drum kits usually take 3-5 seconds to load. Overall, I think load times shouldn't take that much long to be noticeable by the crowd.

BTW, one thing I personally dislike for live use is the plugin activations. It asks for plugin activations at random times, requiring an internet connection.

The One+ comes with WiFi, so it's a bit easier, but be sure the box is powered on and the plugins are activated BEFORE a live gig.

I love doing this... I don't have friends but I have daughters - results are musically horrendous but we do have loads of fun; I just add the RC-505 mk2 for guitar, vocals and farts !

Last year I took a Microfreak, Edge and TD-3-MO to class with some speakers, and after a quick demo let my grade 3s loose on them. Lots of horrendous noise, but they loved it.

From the file browser loading a small project (few samples and synths) takes about 10 sec. With what you plan I guess you'll end up at least at 30 sec.

Mind that does not take into account the time you need to go into the file browser and find the right project file. A dedicated folder and a sensible naming scheme will help.

30 seconds seems manageable. I will be getting one and I will just work around all that.
